Trying to download the new version of AVRDUDESS 2.8, or even the 2.6, all reported as unsafe, few antivirus detected problems.  Even some websites removed the link for the download and tagged as "unsafe".

In the past I downloaded and used several times without any trouble, well, "without any trouble" is a force of expression, since now and then I experienced some strange events on my PC.

Somebody else can comment on this?

My ativirus often gives false alarms on software development tools.

I guess the things that software development tools do as essential parts of their function look suspiciously like the kinds of things that malware does maliciously to mess with your system ... ?

  2. "Garbage" characters on a serial terminal are (almost?) invariably due to wrong baud rate - see: https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/serial-communication
  3. Wrong baud rate is usually due to not running at the speed you thought; check by blinking a LED to see if you get the speed you expected

Well, it's open source, so you may report this to the author, I'm sure he will have some opinion.
