Hello everyone,

I have a project that would take me way too long to finish and would probably be not as "groovy" as many of the upper echelon on 'Freaks could create.

So I offer the following suggestion and forgive me if it exists already.

I have a favorite morning show in St. Louis: The Showgram with JC and the U-Man. We also have a morning show that plays Rock music instead of TALK in the morning. I HATE commercials so, I was wondering if someone could create a portable radio that would have two tuned stations- My Favorite morning show and my favorite rock station and then, when a commercial starts on station 1 it would immediately flip to station 2. Then, monitor station one for a return from the commercials and return after the commercial is over. I have seen a PRIORITY button on scanners and was wondering if something similar could be done to monitor the carrier wave of a commercial or...I don't know!!??

Sorry if this is under the wrong FORUM, feel free ot move it if necessary!

Also, I guess the heading "Great Project Idea" is subjective!!

Can it be done???

Thanks John

Sounds difficult...
Commercials normally include horrible music (maybe that's why you (and I) hate them).
Maybe you can detect that muzak (like speach-recognizing).

IMHO detecting commercials would be the problem. Unless it's everywhere that commercials are FREAKINGLY MORE LOUDER than the show I've been watching so at night I have to hysterically grab the remote to turn down the volume before I wake up someone.

There are pointy haired bald people.
Time flies when you have a bad prescaler selected.

if you add fast forward and reverse buttons, maybe put them on the steeringwheel, it might be easy to manually arrive at the end of commercials.

Outer Space,

Not a bad idea! Now that I could maybe even do on my own :D

I have given it some thought. For me, such a system would have two receivers active continuously and each would be set to Priority channel 1 and 2. Toggling between the two would be done via the volume control. Then, I guess I have two options:

1. Have a nice programmable timer to start a digital recording (have to think about the best way to do that) about 1 hour before the morning show begins (or estimate commercial time per hour of the show and then start the timer so that, as I fast forward through the commercials, I will eventually be listening in real time by the end of the show. AND, if I have a remote then...the whole idea seems moot after all.

or

2. Try to see a pattern in the volume levels (noted by daqq and known by everyone) and simply toggle on that trigger!??

I will continue my feeble gestation of the idea and if it becomes something realistic and doable for me then...I may give it a go.
