I have a problem now with 2 Atmel ICE programmers. This also extends to one of many atmega4809explainedpro boards that I beleive has the same device built onto it.

They are all suddenly invisible to all of my computers. I see hidden USB devices under device manager that have (Device Descriptor Request Failed) next to them.

Windows 10 has had a few updates this last week and for a long time I have had the same with an Asus USB blue ray player that has the decency to at least make the "USB device plugged in sound" and removed sound but also does not show up in windows while it does under linux.

Any ideas? am I the only one?

from least difficulty to most difficulty :

  • Re-install the EDBG device driver
  • Rollback Windows 10

Likely no though the selectors greatly reduce the population size (Windows 10, Atmel Studio 7, Windows 10 current update)

Windows 10 USB updates have caused Atmel Studio issues in the past though has been stable for quite sometime.

Windows 10 .NET updates have upset Atmel Studio in the past.

Windows 10 update can be greatly reduced (rate), ceased, or terminated; Windows 10 Home 1903 (due end of May'19) adds optional pausing of updates (amazing that a feature of Pro added to Home)

Erm, let me reverse my foot out of what I stepped into a bit ;) I tried another cable and it worked, I have cut the cable open and it's a charge only cable.... what has thrown me is that i tried two cables. I am yet to investigate the other cable.
