Now, what do we have in this pretty red Microchip box?

An AVRISP! Now that will solve the problem!

I'll tie this one to a board BEFORE the connector comes loose. The twice repaired one was feeling floppy when I zip tied it to a piece of wood. In fact, I'm not going to use it before it's tied to a board.

That looks like an atmel ICE and not an AVRISP.

Congratulations on your acquisition of an Atmel-ICE full kit.

May it survive long and be a worthwhile tool for you!

Which model of Atmel in circuit emulator is this?

YES! It's an ATMEL-ICE to replace the dead one.

The SNAP was to replace the dead one and work on a mac, but now I have a PC and ATMEL ICE, or is that "Atme Lice?"

One problem with these Atmel ICE parts is the USB connector tends to break off inside. A broken programmer causes ASD brats to whinge, so I reinforced it:

I did this before on an already broken one that I had soldered and super glued back together, but since the usb connector is elevated on the back, tying the cord to the board put some stress on the already weak connector. So I modified my design a bit.

I also wrote my name on it. I recently lost 6 of my favorite train cars. A guy sold them claiming he thought they were his. Strangely, when brought to his attention, he figures the money he got for them is still his. I'm a bit grumpy about that and will no longer be associating with him and have gone back to writing my name on everything like an 8-year-old.

Sounds awfully suspicious that he just happened to sell those particular ones--you were probably scammed.

How did you 'lose' them?  That does not make sense especially when you apparently know/knew him.

He kept my train at his place holding it for "back rent" he decided I owed him. Since I now have a job and money, I paid him off, but my train was shorter than it had been.

The amazing part is probably every one of these will suffer that problem and it won't ever be changed to stop it.
The result in such cases often is-
Angry customer.
Suppliers reputation.
Manufacturers (over there) get an extra 1 cent profit, they are happy with the situation.
Go Trumpy!

And I've done it! A program running in a 4313. Ok, it doesn't do much, but I always start with blinking a LED.
