Is there any difference between a 62256 memory and a 61256 memory? According to the datasheet both are SRAMs, they are pin compatible , the only difference I spoted was that one was a bit faster than the other. Can I use a 61256 in a design meant for 62256?

(because 62256 most likely contains unobtanium as my suplier has none, and I got a 61256 out of an old motherboard)

A 61256 coming from a motherboard sounds more like it's a flash-rom ... not sram. Yeah, I checked the datasheet ....
Is the MB a PC-MB? Or some other MB ?

Well, it was a motherboard from a 486 or a pentium processor. And it's a slim DIP just like the datasheet says.

name: 61256
function: 32Kx8 SRAM High Speed
package: DIP28,28
manufacturer:
added-by: Enno
comment: pinkompatible to 62256, EPROM 27256

If you are using them in an AVR circuit, there is no issue in inter-use. They operate faster than the AVR's can go. If you need them I have a boatload, and would be happy to send you some.

daqq,
Do you want any of the 61256/62256's I have?
Let me know

Oh sorry. No, thank you, I already found some here.

Thanks for the offer. I apreciate it, but shipping it would cost a fortune :)

daqq,

I used one of those on an XRAM interface last year for the ATMEGA128 and all worked fine.

just don't use HC for the latch!

it was too slow at full speed access, took me a day to realise though.

i replaced it with an AC and all was well.

...you could probably put in wait states though and get away with it.
