I have never messed with Arduino before, but I am dipping my toe in on a robotics project where the code is available and written for the Arduino Demilove (AVR328P - Botboardino).

I have opened the Arduino sketch in AS7 and now I am trying to figure out how to debug it using my AVR ONE and the ISP connection on the pcb (Botboardino). Arduino doesn't seems to recognize the AVR ONE as a legit programmer.

Has anyone done this? The Botboardino is really nothing but a AVR Mega328P, I think. Is there any reason why debug wire won't work?

The Arduino boards use a cap from the DTR serial programming line to the reset pin to kick it into boot loader mode, this cap will prevent the use of DebugWire until you cut/unsolder a jumper provided to disconnect this cap from the circuit.   You will need to restore the jumper to enable loading again with the bootloader, but your free then to use ISP.

No hobbiest could afford an AVR ONE programmer/debugger, so no support was needed.
