I have AVR Studio through aStudio412SP4b498 installed. When I run AVR Studio the splash screen displays, then the project open/new dialog appears (without the rest of the GUI displayed) When I cancel the project dialog the AVRStudio.exe process is running but there is NO GUI at all!

I run filemon (by SysInternals) to see what is hanging up. The log of this is attached. I have unistalled avrstudio rebooted then reinstalled several times and still get the same behavior. Any suggested fixes?

Dependency Walker reports that "C:\Program Files\Atmel\AVR Tools\AvrStudio4\DWMAPI.DLL" was not found.

Coincidentally this also occurs on machines where AVRStudio appears to work correctly.

I searched the entire hard disk for the file on all my machines including the ones where AVRStudio seems to work properly. None of them even have the file anywhere on the disk.

Is that a project made by an older vers ??

I think there was something about , having to .... somehow open the project in the new studio , and then save.
Then it would behave normaly the next time

There has been a thread about this

There is no project involved - I cancel out of the open dialog box and then no GUI - I was just using it to connect in to the ST500 and diagnose some programmer problems.

There is a fundamental problem with the framework that AVR Studio relies on on my lab's pc's
