Unable to debug attiny88

Hi everyone,

I am using attiny88 and am unable to debug it using atmel ice. 

When I use progisp, I can flash code on my attiny88 but when I use atmel ice, it shows error. " Failed to enable DW" .

I am using fresh ic and all the fuse bits are default set.

Atmel - ice is not selected.

No, it is selected. 

I am able to debug other boards. atmel ice is connected

If you have an ATMEL-ICE surely you would use it for SPI programming. For a start, you could read the current fuses and lockbits.

If AS7 says that you can't enter debugWIRE mode, it probably means that you have got a capacitor on the dW/RST pin. Or a strong pullup.
.
Remove any capacitors and make sure that any pullup is >= 10k.
Make sure that you have a current version of AS7.

Actually, I have not put any pull-up resistors and capacitors. I have directly connected mosi, miso rst, 3v3, gnd and sck to atmel ice. 

But if I use the old attiny88 which has dw fuse enabled, I am can debug the board using Atmel ice. But after debugging, I am unable to close debug fuse bit by selecting disable debug wire and close.  It shows error. And with new attiny88, I am getting the error as shown above threads.

So as long as I can understand, on my board, I am unable to disable/enable DWEN fuse bit. If it is enabled previously( by other means), I can debug and download, but can't disable it. And, if it is disabled( as in new attiny88), I am unable to enable DWEN fuse bit and can't debug. 

Both the behaviour are on the same board. I have directly connected miso-miso, rst-rst, sck-sck, gnd-gnd, 3v3-Vsense and mosi-mosi of board and atnmel ice. 

Any idea? 

Well I am going to put all the efforts on the hardware side. Becasue I don't think there will be bug in atmel tool chain as it is the latest one and can do debugging on other avr boards.
