Greetings - never have been a M$ Studio user so all this stuff is a mystery to me.

I am talking about all the little marks in the vertical scroll bar on the right side of the Code Edit window. I expect to see the scroll thumb there and the arrow at the top and bottom. But, what is all that other noise?

There are horizontal blue lines (not sure if there is one, only, or more than one, or sometimes none). When I scroll the text with the roller ball in the mouse, then click somewhere in the text, the blue line moves vertically in the scroll bar.  Why? What is it showing?

There are small red squares. Often none. Sometimes more than one and sometimes taller rectangles. They change with the file being displayed but don't seem to move. What are they?

There are small (barely visible) gray squares. Sometimes, they seem, to move, sometimes not. They do seem to get in the way of scrolling by clicking in the scroll bar. What are they?

Is there a way to turn this noise off> I find it  unuseful, annoying, and sometimes obstructive.

Jim

Sounds like you've installed some extensions from the gallery?

None willingly. Where do I find out about installed extensions?

Thanks

The small red blocks indicate a misspelling.  Never really paid attention to them before.

"I may make you feel but I can't make you think" - Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick

"void transmigratus(void) {transmigratus();} // recursio infinitus" - larryvc

"It's much more practical to rely on the processing powers of the real debugger, i.e. the one between the keyboard and chair." - JW wek3

Oh I see, its VassistX is it? If you don't like it the whole thing can be turned off. (it has a menu)

If I click a red dot, it goes to a line with a large red circle in the left column. In a few cases, there is a wiggly trace under a word indicating misspelling (but spelled the way I want it spelled). In a few cases, some of  the line is highlighted with a sort of brick-red highlight, no obvious rhyme or reason to it that I can see).

Is this something built into AS? Or, is it an extension I can remove? OK, I will look at VassistX or what ever it is called.

Thanks

Jim

Oh perhaps I'm wrong then? Red squiggles usually means "naggy"

It is VassistX, don't remove it, I did and can't seem to find where to get it back yet.

No Naggy listed in Tools>Extensions.

Turned off VassistX and everything stays as it was.

Cheers

Here is a pict of AS edit window, strange marks on vert scroll bar, and menu showing VassistX off. This time, I click the red dots, and it seems to take me to random locations in the file, not repeatable.

Jim,

Right-click on the scroll bar and select scroll bar properties.  You can disable them individually or in one swell foop wink

It's not there after uninstalling it, never thought of just turning it off though as Jim did.  A quick repair reinstall brought it back.

@Jim, it definitely was VassistX, when I had removed it all the colored elements went away.

Thanks Greg and Larry.

Never thought of "scroll bar properties"!

Thanks David, note that the dark red blocks are Break Points while the bright red blocks on the right edge of the scrollbar are misspellings.  Also, I don't have the Naggy extension installed, yet I do have squiggly lines under the misspellings as well.  Seems a bit redundant.
