Hi

Atmel Studio 7.0.1645

Windows 8.1

ATmega328P Xplained Mini

I want to demo the Remorse sketch built into the Xplained board.

I have the board connected to USB. It seems the board is recognized by Atmel Studio, cuz the board comes up as soon as i open Studio:

And it appears Windows recognizes the COM port:

This video shows "Terminal" opened from View menu,

but i don't see Terminal on my View menu.

How to open CDC virtual COM terminal?

Thx

This topic has a solution.

Should appear after installing the Atmel Studio Terminal extension.

IIRC, the current Atmel Studio doesn't have access to the extension server due to EOL of atmel.com

There was a post on how to access extensions but will take me a while to locate the post :

No, as part of the microchip takeover of atmel, the website atmel.com is being migrated to microchip.com

No short term, maybe yes long term.

Another possible solution is an interim Atmel Studio (7.0.1652)

fyi, some data was dropped in the transition.

A work-around is

Wayback Machine

http://web.archive.org/

and atmel.com can be served though it's S...L...O...W...

Likely quicker if can start with the original URL or close to it.

Well done!

Saw your thread :

https://www.avrfreaks.net/forum/how-type-serial-port-terminal-data-visualizer

if that doesn't pan out there's

Atmel Logo

Microchip

Starting a connection - - Terminal Window

http://www.microchip.com/webdoc/terminalwindow/ch01s02.html

(bottom)

You can choose to send input either as ASCII characters or as hexadecimal numbers. Note that only 0-9 and A-F is valid input when Hex is chosen. Any spaces entered will be ignored when sending hex. When sending ASCII, you can choose to append new line characters to your send input by using the new line buttons labeled LF and CRCR enabled will append \rLF enabled will append \n, and both buttons enabled will append \r\n.

thx for that! I could not figure how to install the new gallery extension in .1645. Microchip says to "download and open", but that gave me an error. Is Studio supposed to be running when you open it?

Yes though ...

IIRC, there's command line for installing and uninstalling extensions; there may have been a post on how-to (search for ".vsix" and sometime this year?) :
