I have two controllers, both use the ATmega103, both are programmed with the AVR ISP dongle using version 2.65 software. One has the reset pin connected to the dongle and works OK.
The other holds PEN low when connected to the programmer. I get sopratic flash verification errors. The problem is much greater when using a new Pentium III desktop machine than with an old 486 laptop. Does anyone have a solution?

i also have a problem with fast PC´s and programming AVR´s.
I use (or try) a USB/RS232 converter for my Laptop, PIII, 1GHz, and a STK500 for programming. The contact to the STK500 is ok, I can read voltages and so. But I cant program, read or verify the AVR-cpu. The same configuration on my PII, 350MHz, is working correct. I think, the programming tools is speed relevant. Should we ask ATMEL?

I have been trying to In Circuit Program some ATmega103 and 103L with no success.
I eventually yanked out the processor supplied with the STK300 borad and that programmed OK.
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong, the download program (as supplied withthe STK300) comes up with a message saying that it is not recognising the processor.
