Does anyone have a part number, digikey/mouse/farnell or manufacturer, for the single row pin headers you get with some Arduino boards that has long pins on both sides of the insulator? Ideally in gold.
This sort of thing...
Farnell starts me with a choice of 3,541 parts, Mouser over 131k (and no obvious filter) and Digikey over 9k even when filtered.
Pin length is about 6.5mm each half.
From the BoM of a certain other manufacturer's "discovery" board, I got:

the MTSW turns out to be not so easy to obtain but the TSW range can be had from Farnell on a direct-ship basis. I'm going to order...

...which is a SIL strip of 40 pins, gold plated on both bits of the pin, with an 8mm pin each side.

It's a LONG time since I ordered from them (like years) because I basically made a "more than I will ever need" order when I used them (actually a couple of times for different things).
I seem to remember that it wasn't too long (like a bit over a week perhaps?) but there used to be much more talk of Futurlec on here and there were also "scare stories" of people waiting weeks or even months but I think this is because they won't split orders so if you make a big order and just one item is on a long lead time your whole order is.

For someone who is utterly crap at soldering, when I've wanted to use SMD only parts I just get one of my "sparkie" colleagues to mount the chosen chip on one of these adapters and then use it as if it were DIP.
PS just remembered that they are also a good source for the kind of jumper wires (0.1" pin headed) you use in breadboards:

Yes, those adaptor thingies are great - I will solder the low-pin-count SOIC myself, but seek help for the others ...
these ones can be useful for adapting the small pin headers to 0.1" ...
Brian is looking for "long" make header strip. i.e. solder to pcb. Connect female to both sides.
The standard header is for solder to pcb. One female to each pin.

Futurlec has appalling service and delivery times. I used them in the past. Their product range is good. If an item is out of stock, they just stall.

I am sure that Farnell will supply the Samtec parts quickly. The real nightmare is trying to search any Distributor for the exact length of pin that you want.
