Dear Santa Claus,

I hope you aggree that I was honest last year and you're willing to fulfill some desires of mine.

Here's my wish list:

- A new SF AVR series (Superios Fast). While the pico power series are great for battery powered applications, I sometimes need to do something really fast. I guess a 64MHz AVR (or at lest 48MHz) could satisfy my needs.

- An Advanced ADC. A build in 24-Bit ADC would be really great but I think 12-Bit would be enough.

- The vector name table in the avr-libc is not very clearly arranged. A single table for every supported device would be very great. A list of all supported devices at the beginning of the tables would be great - by clicking on the device name I'd like to directly jump to the corresponding vector name table.

Dear Santa the other freaks in this forum are really great. They help each other without asking for personal advantages. Looks to me like a piece of heaven down here on earth. So please be observant when they add their wishes here, too.

A computer controlled Milling machine like Microcarl's.
A 3d printer for making plastic parts.
A car of my own...nothing fancy as I am not really fond of them at all.
A year off school to play with all the other items :)
and also a higher IQ would be cool....just bring me up to Dean's level OK? :)

I just want an AT90CAN168. Is that so much to ask?

DMA would be a wonderful thing - but I don't see that happening for AVRs.

Oh - and I'd really like an ARM in a non-BGA package that has a FPU, MMU, EMI, and a CAN peripheral. Is that so much to ask? (I have found one with all but CAN, however)

Dear Santa,

My request is really quite simple.

I would like:
A Dragon with full JTAG capability.
A small series of proto-boards (simular to the butterfly) but without the display. Say, one for the Mega16/32, one for the Mega64/128, one for the Mega644, etc... My wish would be that it be TQFP, have USB - ready-to-go, JTAG & ISP programming headers, terminal block style interface connectors, mounting holes in the four corners of the PCB.

As I am a speed freak, I'd like to see an AVR that clocks at 64 MHz, though, 48MHz would help.

I would like to see an STK500-A development system. This system would incorporate a place to stick a proto-board, have other features to make proto-typing more convienient. For an example of what I'm thinking, see the attached web-link: http://www.parallax.com/detail.a...

While AVRFreaks doesn't represent a hugh protion of your revenue, we do represent a hugh loyal following that spreads the good works of the AVR product line. Please consider including a Dragon and Butterfly under every AVRFreaks Christmas tree this year.

mirror SREG at 0x00 (or some other i/o location <0x20) so sbis and sbic can be used on SREG flags without breaking compatibility with code assembled for older chips. For the life of me, I can't figure out why SREG was intentionally located beyond 0x1F in the first place, especially given the benefits of extending sbic/sbis functionality to SREG.

new opcode from Santa:
RCSK someLabel ; rcall 'someLabel', skip following opcode on return

Convenient things they'd enable:

sbic SREG, sr_zero_bit

... assuming a future version of AVRASM didn't just invent new opcodes for SREG-testing sbis/sbic opcodes, like skne, skeq, skcc (a.k.a. sksh), skcs (a.k.a. sklo), etc. that ultimately assembled to the same instructions.

Yeah, but for situations where you want to rcall one of two different subroutines depending upon whether the bit is clear or set, it adds cycles and ugliness. Compare

My wishes for Atmel for the next year:

1. Higher clock frequencies
2. More SRAM in chips
3. More hardware PWMs
4. New WinAVR and AVRStudio capabilities.

And personally, I would like to finally have an STK500.

I would like to see "Self-correcting code". Just type in a few lines and it would do the rest. It would respond to voice commands and finish up all the details that programmers used to do.

I'd like a dragon board that handles bigger than 32k parts with full JTAG capabilities! (which I guess means I want a really cheap version of the JTAGice!!

I'd also like a complete mega64 or 128 in a 14 pin SO-DIP package with fuse selectable control over what peripherals and I/O get connected to actual pins.

Dear Santa,
an avr16 chip wouldn't hurt (at least to compete with dsPICs (bleah, I said that :) )).
AVR with MAC instructions would be great.
More 16bit timers/counters to low pincount AVRs will make me happy.

I'd love to have some more time to play with my toys - AVR, other electronics and an ARM real soon now! [ie: Santa, please come do my final exams for me - so I'll just do my undergrad thesis!]

Someting more down to earth would be a decent pcb etching tank -
( (mum + tupperware + etchant) != happy_mum).

Also if they aren't out of stock I'd like a nice 4-channel DSO and a DDS arbitrary waveform generator - actually make them National Instruments interface cards!

I am lucky right now though... 2 days a week I don't have to turn up at school till noon :)

I wouldn't! I went to college at about the age of 35. While I had a blast and probably did much better at 35 then I would have at 18, it was really hard on the wife and kids - we were living way below the established poverty level.

In additiion, if you wait too long, there are too many distractions like, ball games, church, PTA meetings, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and the like. You just feel like you can't give any of those things up, or you life style. It just seems easier to continue on the the established path.

I agree with Carl - this is not a good idea. The trouble is, you'll start making money and then it gets incredibly hard to give it up to be a poor student. Better to always be broke and not know the difference.

I'm once again jealous. Our school network had limited WiFi for teachers only, and bringing a laptop to school was social suicide (plus it was bound to wind up broken or stolen). My school was actually a very good one, but laptops at school just wasn't the done thing for students.

No more high school for me :D.

As for the "video appears black", I have a solution. I can give you the lengthy explanation (involving the world of the Windows GDI) if you'd like, but the short of it is to turn off video acceleration:

    * Right-click desktop, click "Properties..." * Click the "Settings" tab
    * Click the "Advanced" button
    * Click the "Troubleshoot" tab
    * Move slider to "None" for the hardware acceleration
    * Click "Ok" on all windows to close them

Try that, and see if your video shows up. Note that this will slow down video processing on old machines and may mess with your 3D games. You can reverse it easily for when you're home, so that shouldn't be a problem.

No ties at my (now-ex) school thankfully. It was an optional part of the uniform, but none of the guys nor the girls really wore one.

Yes, Dear Santa, I hope the dragon is allready on his way to me, and I would just like it become absolutely universal in use.
And more simple but universal dev boards, especially for those chips that are too small to find them in a box.
And I really need opto separated data line to save place and work and protect mcu while it talks with all the other devices without common ground.
And of course, several additive hours per day. Sorry - per night, it would be even better.

I remember a (very old) thread where Gwen said that her parents didn´t allow her to post information or photos about herself on the internet. I don´t know if that´s changed since then, but IMHO keeping as much private information as possible away from the internet is a wise thing to do.

At least take a class or 2 at a local community college that is coordinated with the requirments of the university you plan to attend. You want to be certain that the credits are fully transferable. You don't want to get out of the habit of studying, because it's difficult to start again as others have pointed out.

The tie makes it look like a uniform or very strick dress code, private school maybe? My boys go to a private Christian school, but even that doesn't make them immune to social issues. My older one just got attacked (thrown down /choke hold) in a PE soccer game yesterday, so we're dealing with that now.

Maybe if he had a laptop to protect him?? :?

There is a teeny tiny pic on my old abandoned website...but I was like 12 then so I look a little different now.

There was an incident a few years ago where some nut figured out what area I lived in from a usenet post... they have your ip attached to them. He pestered me with nasty email and posts until I was sure he must be hanging around the neighborhood or something. My Mom called the cops and eventually the guy was found and they canceled his internet access :)

That was when the no pix-phone#-address rules were spelled out. An Atmel guy sent me a pm here and was going to send some sample chips (I had said something in a post about wanting samples) but I was not allowed to even give them my address :(
When I was offered the free dragon I was smarter and had it sent to my cousins address..I was NOT going to miss out on that :)

My cousin lurks here at freaks from time to time and if I posted a pic he would be certain to blab about it.

Funnily enough, I've given away all sorts of personal information, and I'm yet to encounter even ONE stalker. I don't know if I should be happy, or very offended :D.

I highly doubt anyone here is going to show up at Gwen's (or anyone else's) door unannounced. If it is THAT bothersome to people, perhaps a .htaccess'd section of a private webserver could be set up so the photos on the photos thread only load up for those with a correct password. Anyone have a server to donate?

The Internet is a powerful invention, but this power can be use for evil as well as good. There are too many examples to ignore the dangerous side of it. It's sad, but I'd advise against posting your picture on here or anywhere else on the net, especially if you are young and female. No, not predjudice (spelling?) - thats just the sad way things are. I'd even advice against exposing things like last name or anyhthing else that could be used to locate you physically.

The problem with a password-protected site is that it is not safer than the safety of password secrecy. Anyone that got hold of the password legally could leak it in an intraceable way. I'd advice against such a scheme.

I just reread my post and let me apologize - I got way to parental (well... Grandparental) on you. Its just that earlier this year I was able to locate someone who pissed me off -- and they seemed that they were trying to hide their tracks. I just wanted to see if it was possible based on a the few clues I had, and it is scary how easy it was. I tend to be a little paranoid and sometimes ask, 'yeah, but am I paranoid enough?' Not a fun attitude, but then I've been bitten very hard a couple of times so I'll let my paranoia serve me and try not to impose it on other's.

I don't think you have anything to worry about, but you do need to remain cautious.

Dad showed me how to use the shotgun that is in the closet... you pump and squeeze the trigger. One shot is little pellets...the next is a big piece of metal...etc I used it early in the summer to kill a rattlesnake by the back door...my ears still ring!
(I also shot a big hole in the bottom step and nearly gave Mom a stroke when she heard the boom..booom...boooom)

I was hunting with my uncle, we were climbing a brush pile with me behind him, he turned looked down, pointed his shotgun between my legs and fired :shock:

I had been straddling a copperhead, but to this day I think I would have been better off if the snake had bit me since my heart has never beat right since that moment.

He thought it was hilarious.

Yes, but not only there. Seems to be a global problem.

We had a trial and conviction here just a few months ago. Offender picked his vicrims up posing under a false (female) identity on the Internet, typically on internet sites favourde by youth. 58 victims, according to the court. The youngest was 12. He got 11 years, followed by eviction from the country for life (not a citizen).

Just this week another trial started. Prosecutor claims 38 victims, snd a MO similar to the above.

Ok it seems that i don't follow the news as much as i should with the time i have... probably there are cases like that that I'm just not aware of... must keep my eyes and ears open and my mouth shut (fingers tied)

Dear Santa,

I want an AVR with one external independently maskable absolute priority interrupt. If enabled it should be able to interrupt anything except itself, even another interrupt routine, even when global interrupts are disabled. When enabled it would function as a non-maskable interrupt (commonly known as a NMI pin). The fact it can actually be disabled/masked with its own dedicated control would be for special circumstances like 4 cycle timed operations (such as the IVCE bit) or when you do not want to use the NMI feature.

How about at least one CAN module added to the ATmega640/1280/1281/2560/2561 family?

BTW, if I get a lump of coal instead, please compress the carbon into a diamond :).
