Playing with HT1632 with atmega ?

Everyone,

 

Has anyone of you had played with HT1632 and atmega ?

I'm curious with this chip

Yes - it works as advertised.
Plenty of examples on the interwebs - I googled ht1632. First hit was code.

Limor to rescue again!   Adafruit has a full Arduino library for this device.  There is an easy way and a hard way to get it working.  The easy way is to get a Mega328P-based Arduino Nano or UNO and then compile and run the downloadable Adafruit examples.   The hard way is to download the libraries and data sheet, and then study them inside and out for many hours so that you can "write your own code" that does the same things as the demos, but does it a slightly different AVR device using Atmel Studio 6-7-8-whatever.

 

Arduino stops being a toy or a joke the first time that you compile and load a downloaded demo program for a new peripheral IC and it works.  And you realized that you just saved many, many hours of your development time by leveraging all the many hours of development time that other people have done and have incorporated into an Arduino library for that device.

One of my earliest and most rewarding interactions with the Arduino community was over the HT1632.  It's a neat chip.

I especially liked that after I wrote some basic code, a bunch of people took off with it and did really neat things.

(Hmm.  Several generations of dead file servers.  geocities, mac.com...  sigh.  Let me know if you'd like it put someplace that currently exists.  Although I suspect that Adafruit's version is significantly improved, anyway.  And probably "real C++", too!)
