Yes, KiCad is advancing quite quickly. It is now ahead of many other EDA packages in capability.
Spice will need quite a lot of library work yet, but the Video shows a good looking framework.
The live-value feature would be good to teach with.
There is also a LT Spice XVII release in Beta, but I've found (no surprise) that LTSpice is highly Linear-corporate centric.
LTSpice support group is on Yahoo, which is very cluttered and slow. (not LTSpice's fault, they backed the wrong horse...)
The kiCad support forum, https://forum.kicad.info is quite a contrast - no clutter, easy to search, and edit, and has good image handling.
It is also unclear how ADI take over will affect LT Spice.
