Got the email today, so what good is it for? It seems ARM centric.

Only for ARM John.

Interesting that companies are going this way.

Lite version free but full versions with monthly or yearly subscription.

Everything is going crazy and I feel like the guy who sang "Rock and roll I gave you all the best years of my life......but I was always one step behind you"

Straying even further:  Microsoft VisualStudio has had that model for some years now.   We've done fairly extensive applications with just the free "Express" version.

Now, if we were doing "enterprise" work instead of free-standing PC .EXE apps, then we'd need the appropriate level.

So to bring it back around a bit, if the free Lite version has unlimited code size then what is missing?  ;)  Deliberate code generation on the par with GCC -O0?  For the "Pro":

Static code analysis tools   ✔
Advanced debugging capabilities   ✔
Technical support   ✔

You can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig.

I've never met a pig I didn't like, as long as you have some salt and pepper.

Hmm. Maybe it's time I found my old STM board. I got it free, but didn't have 2 grand to spend on an IDE for it.
