Hi Atmel

I program in assembly and it would be so handy if there is a watch window for assembly variables (ram locations).

It looks like it would be quite easy to do since the information is available in the map file and most of the functionality is already in the memory window.

I am curious why no one else seems to miss this feature all these years. Is there another way to accomplish this?

I certainly would like it.

I second that, but...

When I put a variable name in to the watch window (even when it's a register, not held in ram), it just shows "internal error". Studio 3 could watch register var's, what's going on here?

Hi,

We certainly see the need for watching defined values also in assembler projects. Currently, the AVR Assembler object file contains nothing else than source vs. code mapping information. In Studio 3, the object file reader scans the source files for register info, which is quite cumbersome. We were quite reluctant to use that approach in Studio 4. However, as CS correctly observes, the map file contains a listing of EQU's and DEF's which may be used for the purpose. This feature will be implemented in the next release.

Best regards,
Svenn-Ivar

Thanks.
I (we) look forward to it.

Now if we can just get it to leave the window setups alone between builds...
