Using codevision and going from there to the avr studio for debugging, is there a way to load the coff file automatically? It's really a pain to reload the coff each time and to specify the debug platform again!?

It's a built-in function of the AVR Studio debugger to periodically check the "Last Modified" timestamp of its loaded object files, and reload them if it sees that the version on disk is newer than the version in memory.

If you leave the Studio debug session running, and just Alt-Tab over to your compiler, you should just be able to re-compile.

As soon as you switch back into Studio, it should give you a pop-up window that says something like, "Object file has changed. Reload?" Click Yes, and the debug session will reset, with the new version of the COFF file loaded up.

That's the default behaviour I see with the older (non-integrated) versions of avr-gcc, and I'd expect that the same behaviour would be seen with any 3rd-party "debug-file-generator" (aka "compiler") that you choose to use.
