Hi,
I just want to say "Hello" to all of you, I'm a new member here, and also new to the AVR world. I'm coming from the 8051, latest developments where on the Philips LPC900 family with the Keil IDE. My main interests are robotics, I have ordered some mechatronix from Lynxmotion (expensive stuff!).
Seems to me that Atmel had a very close look at the Keil stuff before devlopping their Studio4 ;)
So now I'm starting with the Studio, the GCC compiler (all installed just fine, I was amazed that the installation of Studio4 found the WinAVR all by itself, really great!).
Further things I ordered where the butterfly, m16 and m32 chips and the AVR-JTAG-USB from Olimex (has anyone experience with this ICE?).
BTW this is really a great place for infos on the AVR's, thanks to all for your work and time!

I have an olimex jtag and it plugs right in where the atmel one does and avr studio thinks it is the same thing.

My AVR Manifest is as follows:

GCC - Free
AVRstudio - Free

SKT500 - Free
AVRISP - Free
ABCmini - Free (present)
ABCmaxi - Free (present)
AVR Butterfly - AU$30 with T-Shirt
2 MEGA8515's, MEGA16, TINY28, TINY2313, TINY15 and TINY12 (all DIL) - Free

So for all my gear, i've paid for $30 of it. Oh, and i'm getting another free ABCmini board from a guy who no longer wants it - I sadly could not save him from the darstadly lures of the PICs.

Incidentally, is it just me or is Atmel a genuinly good company? Of course they're here to make money ultimatly, but I always get the feeling that they actually enjoy making new products, plus their customer support is BRILLIANT. That, and their microcontrollers, boards and AVRstudio are all absolute top notch. Is Atmel the greatest company in the world, or have I just been brainwashed?

Well, when I get old enough to be able to handle my finances and get a house (and accociated crud that goes with it) thats my own, I just might. Unfortunatly Atmel is not making much money off me at the moment (:D) but I suppose it's an investment. That, and I help others who DO purchase large volumes, so we're even.

Atmel seem to have realised that happy customers = profit. No other company gives me a nice warm feeling than Atmel - I only wish I could take a trip to their HQ (the holy Mecca for engineers) and kneel at the feet of the gods.

EDIT: Incidentally, in a fit of happy delerium I sent them a lenghty letter a while back showing my appreciation, hence the STK500. Now THAT's a "thanks for the letter"!
