Hi there,

I have the similar problem: no USB devices detected by AS6.2. Any workarounds yet?

Thanks and regards,
Alex

Turn on logging (https://www.avrfreaks.net/index.p...) and tell us what that says.

After plugging in a JTAGICE3 or a SAMD20-XPLAINED EDGB the Backend Agent logging shows:

10 43 56 011: msg recv(b0):C 7 Tool getAttachedTools ""
10 43 56 012: msg send(b0):R 7 [{"ToolType":"com.atmel.avrdbg.tool.simulator","ConnectionType":"","ConnectionProperties":{}}]

And if you go to Tools|Command prompt in Atmel Studio and type in 'atfw list'?

I get an Error Message Box Popup telling me that WDAPI1010.dll is missing (see attachment).

BTW: OS is Win8.1 Pro x64

A quick google search implies that you have a corrupt windows install...

Okay, but my "corrupt windows" can talk to all programmers using AS6.1.
Reinstalling AS6.2 and Atmel USB drivers does not change anything.

I reinstalled the Atmel USB driver package directly from the stand alone installer. Typing now atfw list in the CMD prompt shows:

C:\Users\Alex\Documents>atfw list
Please specify tool type:
edbg ATML1873040200002346
jtagice3plus J30200000659

But still no devices listed in AS6.2 GUI.

Strange. Have you restarted the machine etc after the updated driver?

Yepp, without success.

Output in Backend Agent cosonsole now:

02 24 30 923: msg send(b0):R 1
02 24 30 926: msg recv(b0):E Locator peerAdded {"Port":"49279","Host":"127.0.0.1","ID":"LocalHIL0","Name":"Local HIL","OSName":"Windows","TransportName":"TCP"}

Nothing more. I also tried to disable firewall, but that did not change anything.

Well brilliant - really thankful I uninstalled 6.1 now. The 6.2 beta backend can't see any tools (ICE3, ATMEL-ICE) other than the simulator (yes Morten, I checked with the backend directly).

Even better, it's decided to do this right when I need to finish an extremely time limited project. Yay!

I don't think it's a hw problem, because AS 5.1 is able to start and stop debug sessions. It's a problem related only to AS 6 and JATGICE3 and debugWire.

Can someone here with the same hw/sw try the same sequence?

I got exactly the same. See https://www.avrfreaks.net/index.p...

I just got the same thing - I'm now wiping all versions of Studio 6 from my machine and will then install 6.2 alone.

One thing that *might* explain it. I often have a command prompt window open and looking at the avr8-gcc directories where I can potter about with grep, avr-nm and so on. I just found that I had such a window open when I tried to replace 6.2Beta with 6.2. So, while it did not complain, it may not have been able to fully remove the "old" directory as a window had it locked at the time.

This might be the reason why the installation of the new one failed. Under AVR8 GCC\Native I now find I have 3.4.1025 and 3.4.1056 but if I use KDiff3 to compare them (I was interested to know what had changed) they don't really compare at all. Huge parts of 1051 are missing. It's like it was doing a recursive delete until it hit the "current directory" in my Command Prompt and could not get past that.

This does indicate a possible fault in error reporting. Surely the system said "no, that file/dir is locked by something else - you cannot delete it"? It wouldn't have hurt to present that to the user or just "installation cannot continue because a directory to be removed is locked" or something?

I am also unable to see any USB programming tools with Atmel Studio 6.2. I'm trying to use the SAM-ICE and the JTAGICE3. I've uninstalled all Atmel software, reinstalled Atmel Studio 6.2, reinstalled the J-LINK driver, unblocked firewalls, nothing works. I can see the SAM-ICE with the J-link software, and also if I reinstall Atmel Studio 6.1, but nothing in 6.2. Has anyone discovered anything new?

For some reason it works on my laptop, with the same OS basically the same setup. I'm not sure what's different. It refuses to show up on my desktop.

Often problems like this are anti-virus or permissions.

Both computers have AVG Free installed, and I've tried disabling the virus software. Any thoughts on what permissions I should check?

I've resolved my issue with the help of Atmel support. I can now see all of my programmers in Atmel Studio 6.2

The issue was with Atmel Studio loading dlls. There was two "JLinkARM.dll" files, and it was loading the wrong/outdated one.

To fix the issue I copied JLinkARM.dll from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Atmel\Atmel Studio 6.2\atbackend
TO
C:\Program Files (x86)\Atmel\sam-ba_2.12\drv

I used to use AVG free, but it started setting folders read only causing studio to get confused when it tried to build.

Now we just have to find out why the sam-ba dll gets loaded before the dll that we provide... :|

So.. Installed the latest version 6.2.1153. No tools available whatsoever. Backend crashes with:

22:28:32.663: 03 28 32 632: osp.core.BundleLoader Failed to start bundle com_atmel_debugger_core: Cannot load library: C:\Program Files (x86)\Atmel\Atmel Studio 6.2\atbackend\codeCache\com_atmel_debugger_core.dll
22:28:32.663: Some bundles failed to load. Terminating.
22:28:32.667: 22:28:32: [WARNING] The back end process exited with code 0

Unbelievable. Any ideas? All tools show on the console with atprogram list:

C:\Users>atprogram list
simulator No serialnumber found
jtagice3 J30200034083
avrdragon 00A20001700C

So now I'm trying to open a project and flooded with:

22:50:36.668: Exception :Unspecified error (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004005 (E_FAIL))
22:50:36.668: Exception :Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.

0x80004005 is "access denied".

Have you tried running as administrator?
Did you install as the same user you are when trying to run?

Are you running any anti-viral software? Which one? Can you turn it off temporarily to see if it is involved in the problem?

My operating system is Windows 8.1 with all latest updates and with just one user. Just on a sidenote, everything worked ok until this update as this is my main dev machine.

* Tried disabling Avast.
* Tried disabling Windows Firewall.
* Tried removing and installing everything again, including drivers.
* Flashing works ok with Dragon and JtagIce3 with atprogram.

The for the heck of it in installed 6.1 and now get the same error even with it. I tried looking for any programs installed between these versions, but with no luck. Also tried removing some windows updates, but again no change.

I am out of ideas. I'll probably just reinstall Windows at this point and see if it makes a difference.

Update: So, disabling avast did not help, but uninstalling it totally, did.

Steps to repeat:
1. Install 6.1 (everything works)
2. Install Avast (everything works)
3. Install 6.2, this will break it.

I see I am not the only one having, to put it politely "ISSUES" getting ^.2 working. I have received so many errors that I am in the process of uninstalling everything Atmel from my primary PC. This task has taken two days between the Machine, and I just do not have the time to simply sit here and wait, and answer all the "Do you really want to do this?"

I find it amazing that there are duplicate copies of ASF, The backend, The USB PAckage, and others no wonder the software barfs.

Hopefully stripping everything and doing a 'clean' instal of 6.2 production release cures the issues, and finally allows me to do QTouch work as Atmel's helpdesk instructed me to use the production version of 6.2 as it's the only version that supports Qtouch
