hi guys..
my usart is working well transmit and receive.
But in transmitting, i always get a strange character accompanying the transmitted character upon reset as seen on the receive window in bray's terminal. for example, i sent a 'b'. what i would see is '<0>b'.
it doesn't show up if i transmit back whatever i receive from the pc..
my suspect is some reset details that i overlooked.

The USART output would be floating at reset so you will get garbage untill the processor starts. Putting a pullup resistor (10K??) in your TX line may fix it as it would not give a false start bit.
