Studio 6.1 on Win8.1 "no programmer", avrdbg.exe?

Hello.
I am running Studio 6.1 on Win8.1 on two different PCs. One is working fine (with McAffe), the other (with Norton 360) cannot find any programmer and not even the simulator. The installed AVRISPMk2 is shown correctly in the Windows system manager and works fine on the second PC.
I found a description for this problem in Atmel Studio 6.1 Release Notes under FAQ point 8. One should search avrdbg.exe and make an exception in Norton.
I can only find avrdbg.dll, but no avrdbg.exe.
An exception in Norton of this DLL and / or the complete Atmel Studio 6.1 does not help.
Also tried a complete new installation with USB, Jungo, Atmelstudio and the necessary Visual Studio after correct uninstallation. No result, no programmer.
Need help.
Thanks

Atmel issued a set of update, Win8 friendly USB drivers in a post here a couple of months ago. I wonder what the search terms would be to target that post? (serious question - the search engine here has a mind of its own!)

(doesn't explain no simulator though!)

No simulator means that either atbackend.exe has crashed, is unable to start or the communication between Atmel Studio and atbackend is blocked. That's why the faq asks to run it manually and check what fails, and add exceptions for it in some antivirus.

I have updated the FAQ now internally to say atbackend.exe so that wording should be less confusing in the next release.

Thanks for answering so quick.
1) I tried the exception of atbackend in norton360 -> no simulator, programmer
2) restart windows -> no s., no p.
3) start Astudio61sp2.exe with option "repair" -> no s, no p
4) atprogram with parameters accesses the programmer AVRISPmk2

Are there any more tips, hints?

Thanks,

Helmuto

run atprogram.exe in a console. Start Atmel Studio, go to Tools|Options|Backend Agent|Set Use local/start self or similar to true. Go to the Tool entry, set Enable diagnostic logging to true. Accept and close, and Atmel Studio should connect to the atbackend.exe that you are running in the console. Post the logging output from the console.

To change back from running atbackend yourself; reverse...

Can you please disable the antivirus for once and check that it is working (just to ensure, what if the antivirus got really scared about the Atmel stuffs and deleted it)

Looks like this:

03 35 42 346: msg send(30):R 0
03 45 32 786: msg recv(30):C 1 Stream setLogBits 4294967295
03 45 32 786: msg send(30):R 1

Is it ok, that in the console, in which atbackend is running, no result is shown?

And AS6.1 keeps saying. "Debugging tool is not set. Plese set correct tool...".
But there is no tool, no programmer and no Simulator shown.

Thanks,

Helmuto

@cooluser:
It's a nice idea, but I don't know how to disable Norton 360 for once. It has a silent mode, but there are no changes towards the programmer. And I don't want to uninstall it, because it is registered at Norton.

I can't believe it. Yesterday evening AS was able to find the programmer. There was no change in the Parameters. The diagnostic lopgging:
11 31 58 690: msg send(30):R 0
11 31 58 706: msg recv(30):E Locator peerAdded {"Port":"54545","Host":"127.0.0.1","ID":"LocalHIL0","Name":"Local HIL","OSName":"Windows","TransportName":"TCP"}
11 34 11 598: msg recv(30):C 1 Stream setLogBits 4294967295
11 34 11 598: msg send(30):R 1
Some hours later, this morning, again without any change in Settings again "no programmar / Simulator".

Seems to me, that I am the only one talking about this Problem. It is not solved.
Results:
AS6.1 on Win8.1 without Norton -> no Problem
AS6.1 on Win8.1 with Norton -> no programmer, see above
AS6.1 on XP with Norton -> no Prpblem

@meolsen: I posted the logs of a running System and of a not running one. What's your conclusion?

Thanks.

Yes, the 6.2Beta seems to work fine since Friday. Hope, it will run stable for long. Does anyone know, when it will be released as a final (not Beta) Version?
And the handling of the production file seems to be implemented again in a way, it was in Studio 4. Is there any detailed descriction?

Thanks.

Of course the description is in the documentation. I feel ashamed.
Thanks a lot for your quick help and getting a well working Studio.
