Well I had to do it again :D downloaded and installed the new version v4.11 (because it is 41 MB in size ? :D ). Some of the bugs with the ICE200 have been fixed and now I'm a happy vegemite...well untill I find something wrong at least. Finally I can get the ICE to work rock solid it seems.

The rumors are right :) I have tried to taste it only once and almost died!
Well it is supposed to be some form of vegetable spread...looks like thick sump oil... BUT here in Australia it is very much loved...not necessarily by everybody. Everyone else in my family likes it.

I think it is a colonial version of Marmite, which is basically yeast extract and salt. I was brought up on it.

Heh - yeah I tried some vegemite + crackers, and let me tell you for me water was a key part of that afterwards...

I tried 4.11, but had to revert back to 4.10. There seems to be a problem with debugging Atmega128 in a JTAG chain. This works well under 4.10, but just hangs in 4.11.

Hi

Don't knock it. I was raise on Vegemite & still alive otherwise I won't be writing this. Best pikelet or toast is to mix vegemite, golden syrup & peanut paste together. Get a real kick out of this flavour.

Also when we have overseas visitors we give them a vegemite sandwich (2 sides slap together, so they cannot see what is inside it). Get good facial expression.

Bit of vegemite trivia have a look at this site.

Would that be something like "vitameatavegamine" (I love Lucy)?

Anyway on first look, it appears that I can now see the values for
extended data space variables in the watch window, and with
the "eyeglasses" icon from the menu bar without having to look them
up by address in the extended dataspace window. I'll post back
if this isn't true for all cases.

Well it looks like this may be the end of the line for the
original Jtag Ice. Studio 4.11 does NOT appear to contain
an updated firmware file for the jtag ice, but did for the
jtagmII ice.

Could just be that there was a bug fix for the MkII (there was, it now
will download files NOT starting at address 0) and no new devices
added? However Atmel may very well have dropped support for
the original serial jtag to force everyone to upgrade to the MkII if they
are using new devices and to cut off the air supply to the clone jtags.
Guess the GNU guys need to speed up the reverse engineering effort
on the MKII for avarice support!

PS:
V4.11 looks REAL GOOD.... They finally fixed the extended data space
problem. I CAN now see real values for variables in extended data space
without having to enter the address in the memory window.

Reverse engineering is no longer necessary. The volunteers just have to have the time to implement it.

OT:
Oh, and you guys can keep your vegemite in the land of Oz! :P

Nice, I think because of this post:

What about STK500 firmware v2 protocol?

Great! maybe some day we will be able to run the MKII avr jtag under Linux.
(Thank you Atmel for supporting open source).
I doubt that there will ever be any clones of this unit though. Hopefully it will also be
possible to update the MKII jtags under Linux as well, or we still might need to run
avrstudio 4 at least once to bootstrap new code into the Jtag.

This is a new issue, that was just discovered Saturday (by you ). I have no idea (yet) what Atmel is doing here, or why.

If Atmel trys to implement a common protocol for all development hardware then may it is possible to use the JTAG mkII protocol documentation as base for the STK500 v2. So one must be only reverse engineer the commands related to STK500 and not the whole protocol.

Guyzz

I have Studio 4.09 installed now.

And have a STK-500 + a Olimex Jtag (supposed to be a 2004 veerion ,that can update correctly) but never connected yet...

Should i upgrade to 4.10.xxx and let studio update stk-500 ??
And then upgrade to 4.11 , saying no to the stk-500 upgrade ??

What about the Jtag , is there any update for that one in 4.10 ???
I read that there is none in 4.11

Does studio automaticly update jtag also ??
