Prototype Boards for the Atmel 8-Bit AVR.

Prototype Boards are hardware platforms for breadboarding and/or prototyping 8-bit AVR-based microcontroller systems. Separate sections discuss development kits, board-level products, programming interfaces and debugging interfaces.

Contents

[edit] Atmel

Atmel does not offer prototype boards, although products such as the STK500 and AVR Butterfly (see development kits) can be easily extended with off-board prototyping areas.

[edit] STK500 Expansion Boards

The STK500 Expansion Board, (USD 5) available from ECROS Technology plugs into the expansion connectors of an STK500 and provides about seven-and-a-half square inches of prototyping space. All interesting signals are brought up to pads and there are plenty of connections to power and ground. In addition, a connector for an external JTAG interface is provided which can be used if the STK500 carries an ATmega16 or ATmega32. A kit of parts, including the connectors and supply decoupling capacitors, is available.

[edit] Butterfly Carrier

The Butterfly Carrier from ECROS Technology (also available from Smiley Micros) provides a robust base for expanding the AVR Butterfly and includes more than six square inches of protyping area. A kit of parts is available, which includes the connectors needed to mount the AVR Butterfly on the Carrier. Also in the kit are a reset switch, DB9 for the serial port and power supply components suitable for use with most DC wall-wart power packs. After assembly, the Butterfly Carrier relocates the ISP and JTAG connectors conveniently to the rear and the power and serial connectors to the left side.
