Hi 'Freaks,
just wanted to say "Hi" and tell everyone who cares that I'm still alive and sometimes bragging about how cool a forum I know about AVR and all that embedded stuff^^
I'm working on my final University project nowadays which will be a pretty cool C++ programm. Righty, the baaad stuff with objects  The first days were really messy because I was all like "wtf why do I have to use cast all the time? ... what casting is bad manner? Damn good old asm days were I knew each and every RAM cell by name (because I've chosen it) and all variables were 8 Bit. Well I start to like objects again and also get to like the features of a daddy-like compiler telling me what's bad 
Best thing is that I have to handle the incoming 20 MB/s USB stream as fast as it comes in. Well ... the really best thing is that my professor likes the task as much as I do and pays me a PC with a server mainboard and two QuadCore CPU's ^^

@Plons: Thanks  No, I'm at the "FH Giessen Friedberg" in Gießen. Have you benn in Aachen?
@Johan: I don't (anymore). It took me a day or two to get back into OOP and learn that different types shouldn't be mixed to protect the programmer (although they are all 32 Bit)
It still feels a bit ... pussy like. I bet this was made up by the same guys who said "pointers are bad" and "gotos are evil, dont tell newbies they exist in C" Although this article is older than myself it really grabs my thoughts in this respect ^^
Anyway ... the benefit of using objects, double linked lists and GUIs is well worth doing some quiche-eater stuff! |

Hey Nephazz,
I used to work at Leitz in Wetzlar. I used to travel to Gießen on occasion to get out of Wetzlar and do some shopping at the PX at the Army base there. I didn't know I wasn't allowed in until I got busted one day. The soldiers were pretty cool about it.
I was in Europe about 4 times in my life. The first time when I was 19 and did the backpacking thing. I recommend travel highly as a life experience although I suspect you might spend a lot of time on studies.

You are right, but I feel the need to see foreign countrys since a few month. Since I finish my education in october I'd love to do a trip to sth far away and cool. I think I'll give the casinos in LasVegas a try, since I'm a somewhat skilled poker player and eager to see the biiig screens
Does anyone know "must see at least once in a lifetime" places? I've been to north france, north italy and the netherlands so far. |

Hi again, 'Freaks,
I'm done with my education and now I'm a german "Diplom-Ingenieur der Automatisierungstechnik" or short "Dipl.-Ing. (FH)" which pretty much translates to a electronic engnineer, I guess.
I do have a job already, which is very intressting and exiting to me. I work at the Fraeger GmbH at R&D and I'm responsible to introduce a new embedded controller for the electric car we produce. Actually we buy suzuki splash cars and modify them to e-only.
PS: we use AVRs in our lab for different stuff^^ |

Hi again
a year went by and I didn't forget this community
I now have a girlfriend since nearly a year and moved to her 2 month ago. The job didn't went that well. Fraeger is a very small company and the workload resulted in 60 hour weeks (no payment or freetime for over-hours) which resultet in high psychic stress and low quality work. And since I have a conscience I got into unsolvable ethical problem. Well ... after all I got stress-ill and had to quit the job which was like one of my best decicions ever made. I was able to sleep again and felt better all in all just the day after I handed my termination letter to the HR-people.
Now I have a job offer from itk engineering with a promise to work in my home region only, so I don't have to move for the job. When they put this sentence in the contract I'll sign it and be as excitet about the new job as I was before Fraeger. It prolly will be the same topic (car controller software) but hopefully and probably way more professional and for a company which actually cares for its employers.
My newest toy is a Digilent Basys2 FPGA Board which came to live some hours ago. Dudes, Xilinx has the most complicatet Development Environment I ever saw But like any (I)DE before I'm sure I'll get it to do it's job
