Well, with a little ingenuity I figured it out (the only user profile page I've been looking at for a while, so the link was "marked as used").
This user should be nuked good right now: http://www.avrfreaks.net/index.php?name ... p;u=292422
Dean! The mail to you has not bounced. I used dean_patrick dot camera at atmel dot com . Correct? |

Dean has already reported in the "hidden place" that this user's IP has already been banned. |

Correct, so I wonder where the heck it went - my guess is the corporate spam detector's eaten it. In any case, I banned the user for whatever it was they did.

OK, so I'm on the Atmel spam list now..?
Strange, since the address has worked for sending to a few other Atmel employees. |

Johan the moderators USUALLY posts the user name and the IP address in a "top secret" thread in the moderators's forum for banning.
I managed to get the IP address but, as you may understand, there were too many distractions trying to delete stuff.
I had to wash down my monitors with alchool to sterilise it and while I was there I took a sip or two....just as well my pacemaker was working well. |

Neither was the stuff I alerted about yesterday.
The "regular" spam was bad, but when we get hard p*rn photos embedded directly into posts we are in real trouble.
I hereby suggest that we convince Atmel to give member banning rights to enough moderators so that flooding of such stuf can be stopped within reasonable time! Two mods in Europe, two mods in the Americas, and two mods in the Far East/Australia should make for better chances to ban quickly. We already have Dean and EW trusted to ban so we would need one more in Europe and the Americas, and two in Far East/Oz.
Good idea? |

It was porn images that caused that closure of registration a while back. Dean says there's now a parallel site in (internal) testing that has spam filtering so I guess we need to see how that pans out.
It's true that the registration closure did create a very nice "spam holiday" for the moderators!
As for the suggestion of mods with banning powers. I don't think the site caters for that alone. You are either a user, a moderator or an admin and the latter get the keys to every door in the place so Atmel may be a bit leery about giving that kind of access even to (hopefully trusted) mods.! |

Yep, earlier PM communication with Eivind revealed that you have to be a paid employee of Atmel to get the keys to the treasure trove ... and they are not hiring at the moment |

So far it's looking good - it transparently processes posts, and if it looks spammy it throws up a (simple to read) CAPTCHA before allowing the post. That should kill off the bots immediately (since it's bad-aided onto the existing platform, the existing bots won't cope with it) and at least slow down the human spammers.
