Hi guys,

When you wish to report a spammer, please post the link to that message here, in this thread.

So far we used PM to moderators as mechanism, and that worked fine. However, since we are aware of how much you guys dislike spammers Wink the number of PM's grows rapidly.

This new mechanism saves time and effort. But feel free to PM me .... if you feel the urge Wink

I'm sure most already know, but there is of-course an easy way to get to all posts by a specific member. Just click the member name and from there "Find all posts by X". No need to sift through all the different fora looking for spam for Chinese faked merchandise.

I asked the Almighty and he's responded to one of my prayers. So that maybe spares us for another 5 minutes until nikeaaashoes re-registers.

Ross,

Only "cleaner" can clean projects so "spam projects" are best reported in the other thread.

Yes I know, Cliff.

However, "cleaner" is no longer with Atmel. Have exchanged PMs with Eivind and he intervened recently to "catch up" on the janitorial backlog. I am simply building some evidence in support of future actions.

Alas, the spammers have worked out that you and Nard are super efficient and have moved to the projects arena.

Cheers,

Ross

Admins,

Front webpage of AVRfreaks in the latest projects section some bunch of crooks are recruiting people for some bill payment scan. Can it be removed? The poster (forkhan) appears to be non existent as a user.

Murdo.

Murdo,

I've PM'd Eivind about this. In future if you see something like this that only an Admin, not a Moderator can deal with it's quicker to simply PM direct to 'eivind'

Thanks Cliff - didn't know it was only Eivind who could deal... Thanks Eivind.

I don't know about you guys but when I see what spammers and other idiots have done to comp.arch.embedded it makes me cry... and more determined than ever not to let it happen here...

To make it clear:

The moderators (Cliff, plons et al) can throw out posts in threads. The admins (eivind et al) are the only ones that can throw out projects and users.

The thread we're in now is for reporting spam in threads to there mods. There is a thread very close to this one where one can report spam and other uselessnesses in projects.

Eivind, do you have a clever way to simply say "remove all posts by user X" (and then ban them)? Someone PMd me about "anyuta" but when I looked the posts were already gone. Did you have to do what I do each day and laboriously delete each post one by one using "find all posts" or do you have a quick way? (when there are 10 or more it becomes a major PITA!)

Hi Cliff,
no I'm afraid I have to do the PITA routine.
Mass deletion of posts like that is possible in later versions of phpbb, but it's not present in the Nuke-version we have.

And there are too many table relationships involved to just use a dirty SQL job for it...

You folks have done it again - two links to the same thread - one profile, one thread. Wink

Can I suggest that in future you just post one thread that has spam - I'll always do a "find all posts" anyway if their post count is higher than 1 anyway.

Ah this piece of Wisdom actually comes from Johan Ekdahl (to whom I'll be forever grateful). Until he told me I'd never even noticed this but for every displayed post here there's a line that starts "Posted: <date> - <time>" and to the left of "Posted" there's an almost completely insignificant little icon looking like a piece of paper with the corner turned over. That is actually a link back to that very post itself. If you hover the mouse over it, right click and use "Copy Shortcut/URL" then the clipboard now holds a URL that links directly to the post. Now just Ctrl-V that into a post here and you are done.

why isn't the idiot banned altogether?

I deleted that one. As for banning I'm kind of hoping that Eivind reads this thread from time to time. The only sanction is to make their account inaccessible, there's no way to block IPs (AFAIK).

Just to say that from Wednesday I won't be around until the 20th so I'm kind of hoping one of my fellow moderators will take on the task of deleting any spam that appears in that time.

Thanks Nard.

John, if you were serious (it would make sense to have a mod "on the other side of the world" to catch spam when Europe is asleep) then just drop a PM to eivind and ask if he could give you those privileges.

Cliff
