5:30 sounds good. Not if sure we should book somewhere or not. Like you say there's a pub on every corner in the CBD, but I only ever go to the one opposite uni so I don't know many |

I assume that at 5:30 pm, most "workers" will arrive with eating something somewhere on their list of activities ... I know I could go a bowl of pasta before the night is out. Assuming that talking is also on the menu, a pub might be a tad noisy so Neil's suggestion sits fine with me ... but I am happy to go with the majority. Do we need a poll ?
Cheers,
Ross |

Jim,
???WebFreakinar???
I am in!!!
You people from Australia. I have some cousins there. They are 2nd and 3rd generation from their Greek parents (1st generation), who moved there for a better life in the past. As I know, none of them work as an engineer, so nobody can tell me about our job.
Except you guys.
What would you tell me if I ask your opinion of leaving Europe to meet Australia and work there as an engineer? |

Michael, the last time I was in Athens, our taxi driver told us about his cousin in Melbourne and asked if we knew him! "Of course" ... but the fare was still the same
Be prepared to cook your mother's favourite baklava and to compete with all of the other "hopefuls" that come to Australia. Employment is never guaranteed for anyone.
Cheers,

Hi All,
The bar is very quite. We could meet there for a bit then go to one of the cafe's on Swanston st.
My wife would have to come at this point
As people make there way to the hotel they could have a look at Cafe/Restaurant they would like.
Alternativley, there is a restaurant called Sa Wa Dee (Thai) just around the corner in Chinatown.
We have had many meals there. Never failed.
Neil. |

Ross,
You are right. It was just a question.
For example if you ask me the same thing, I mean to came and leave here, I would say:
"Nice idea. Please, don't forget to use your time machine before. But, I am afraid that you won't find baklava if the time sellector is switched at 1000BC"
I think you got me. |

Ah, Ross,
Let me also believe (99%), that somehow, the fare was higher than it might be. |

Well, it looks like 5:30 is the go, with food on everyone's mind -- but perhaps it would be best to meet up at a bar for an hour to get everyone together, then make a group decision where to go from there.
Neil has a preference for the bar of "The Swanston Hotel Melbourne Grand Mercure". To be honest I'm not fussed, and it seems easy enough for me to get to from the train station (see map).

Guys,
I will be at the Mercure's bar at 5 to 5:30.
See you there.
Cheers,
Ross (now without beard) |

Ok, all settled then? Right, so the details for everyone:
LOCATION: The Swanston Hotel Melbourne Grand Mercure (195 Swanston Street)
DATE: Monday 11th January
TIME: 5:30-When Everyone Leaves
AGENDA: Beer Drinking, possible Dinner for those who are hungry
It would be helpful if all those who will be attending on the day post their names here after this post, so we can tally up roughly the number of people to look out for on the night -- that way, if we all decide to go off to dinner, we don't leave too many people behind if they are late.
Looking forward to seeing you all there.

With the amount of planning that has been put down, this event must be a stunning one. Pics please! (No Leon... ) |
