I recently moved to Melbourne, Australia, and I'm looking for ways to meet new people, since I'm currently working from home.. So I was wondering if any of you fellow solder addicts would like to meet up sometime in the real world? Maybe grab a drink and discuss datasheets? Talk about projects? Send me a message, or post here and we could all have a big AVR meetup...

Hi Alan,

Welcome to Melbourne. Where have you come from? What suburb are you in? I am in Blackburn ... east of Melbourne CBD.

I am particularly busy at the moment (my wife accuses me of arranging it every Xmas so that I don't get to do any shopping and wrapping), but could probably find some time in January.

Cheers,

Ross

I'll join you as soon as the Samperi Foundation sends the private jet up to give me a lift back.

I'm up for it, but I think it would be best if we did it as a group (I'm not a particularly dynamic person, plus it would be fun!). I'm located in Greensborough (near Eltham/Diamond Creek) but if we all meet in the city, exact home location isn't so important.

PS: Ross should definitely be there - I owe him a drink for him lending me his XPLAIN board.

After enough beers, exact home location is fuzzy anyway!

I'll be there if I find the time for the drive and the Volvo is up to it Wink

OK, so on my estimations we "could" have a team comprising:

- Dean,
- Kartman,
- Ron Berger
- Darren McInnes
- Gussy (Angus Peart)
- moi ...

Anyone else in Melbourne?

Cheers,

Ross

As everyone wants to shout a drink to everyone else may need to book a few rooms, unless youse all drinking ginger beer, which is nice. Smile

edit I can see a TV show here..maybe it can be called "Big Bang theory" Laughing

I'm in Brisbane - we have a few people up here meet and discuss robots with AVRs every month or so

All,
I am more than in, as long as when the Samperi Jet picks up Chuck, it could swing by and get me as well Laughing

I am playing with a funky video server system. It works with most webcams so maybe we could setup a WebFreakinar?

First time I check these forums in a few weeks and I see my name somewhere. It must be my 8th sense...

I'm up for a group gathering somewhere in the city, it's only a few minutes on the tram for me Smile

Melbourne Florida is just S of Cape Canaveral... about an hour SE of Orlando. Guess that doesnt count unless they have a web cam in one of the beach bars.

A group shindig sounds like a good idea, then...I apologize for the timing; I keep forgetting that it's almost Christmas.. That's what happens when you come from Spokane, Washington, USA, via Osaka, Japan, I guess!

I'm thinking maybe sometime in the first full week in January? That gives more people time to see this post, so we know how many people to expect, and I can find a good place, probably around the CBD. Actually, any suggestions of good places? I guess having the guy who is new in town pick the place is a little stupid.. Also, post (or email) and let everyone know what days would work best in the evening.

Thanks!

Amazing. A country with 20 million people can get more avr programmers in one city than a country with 300 million people.

First week is fine for me. Looking forward to meeting you all in person (even if I am a very shy person). Not fussy where we meet.

That reminds me, I owe Gussy two or three years worth of free drinks for hosting my website.

Laughing 22 million ... Bob, back in the early 1990s I was the vice president of the "Clipper User Group, Melbourne". At its high point we had 250+ members ... and that for an "obscure" dBase-like software language. Maybe Melbourne really is the nerd capital of the universe .... Laughing

Cheers,

Ross

I'm in Melbourne, and should still be here in early Jan. providing my co-workers don't kill me before then.

Hi All,
Seasons Greetings.

I just spent the last two weeks in Melbourne but I expect to be back there for a few days on the 11th January.
