| It's all in the title. Anyone else having this problem. More importantly, any ideas how to fix it? |

| I just got a new PM e-mail notification today. Sorry, I know this doesn't help very much except to point out notifications aren't totally broken. |

The bad thing about this is that, if one is helping someone with a problem, one is likely to lose track of where one is at.
So someone that needs our help is likely to be lost in the traffic. |

| I have the impression that the freaks forum is slowly disintegrating as the admins don't have the resources (time and funding) to keep it up. Sometimes I think we should create a replacement forum to become independent of these limitations. |

| The biggest problem for me is that it completely destroys communication integrity, and as a consequence, community . SInce I have no idea that a post has been responded to, I don't check back on avrfreaks, which means I'm not available when people ask me about my tutorials. Imagine this repeated a thousand times over, and you've got the makings of a big problem! |

Yes, this has been my impression aswell, but I cant quite put the finger on exactly what is the problem. I guess its the earth moving and AVR is meeting competition and focus on forums like these thus lose in the battle against the big investors. At least I think that xmega represents some new strategies when it comes to supporting the communities like this one. Not necessarily negative, but different.
...Or, the guys at Atmel Trondheim is growing, losing their childhood for the price of marketing Never seen a company involving its best developers as Atmel Tr. did in this forum. Do not think it is common for big companies to do such investments and now the "blaaruss" (Norwegian slang for economist) has been taken over the helm. |

I'm still not. Sigh...
Does anyone know who is in charge of the forums? Perhaps a nicely worded email or message might do the trick. |

Try Eivind from Atmel - you can PM him here, as he's got an account (same name).
I've been getting AVRFreaks emails ever since I removed one layer of email redirection from my rube-golberg email system; they were being eaten by one of the spam filters.
On an unrelated note, I've just set up a LUFA system where new emails light up my wall green when they arrive, and red once I've read them all. AVRFreaks emails now repaint my wall!

It wouldn't cost Atmel much to move this and the wiki to a decent server. I pay about $10/month for my political wiki on Dreamhost using the same software as the AVR wiki, and it performs very well. There are also a gazillion other providers. This forum is a tremendous value for Atmel because of all the technical advice that comes from users, and the Wiki could also be a tremendous value if it weren't so slow. They are foolish to neglect it like they do. |

I have the strange feeling that it may all move over to Atmel forums. CryptoMemory and Touch Technology are already there. Of course nothing as lively as this forum. |

The "two topic in one thread multiplex switch" is now set to "notification mail":
Youst a thought, if your post nuke profile somehow gets messed up on atmels server, the email address used to send responses may be invalid.
If you select menu "profile" (the "profile" menu at top of the forum frame), then first confirm that the

Then enter the "Change your PostNuke profile" menu and reenter your email address and password. Your profile should then get renewed and may work again.
The "two topic in one thread multiplex switch" is now set to "avrfreaks forum activity":
Atleast if a forum switch, or work or maintenance or worce is ongoing, atleast the last thing they (read forum admins) could do to us before christmas is to tell us what is actually happening. A sticky notice on the upper banner describing the status of this site for example. If avrfreaks loosing focus, I am quite sure there are people out there who would like to host this mgnificant site on an idealistic basis.
Its is not thath i beleived that this site would live for ever, but I would like to know if focus is changed. Then I can follow ... I am not afraid for the changes, but I am afraid for beeing left outside! |

| I haven't received notification emails in the entire autumn. But as I did not have much time for the freaks forum I did not really notice. But suddenly I've get a notification email about every three days. It seems completely random which ones I get. So it's not completely broken, but a zombie somewhere eats about 95%... |

| Yeah, mine died a few days ago. As much as I would like it working again, I must admit it is sort of freeing to not be guilted into following the threads so closely. |

Not true. Many of us, who don't have real lives, scan the forums several times daily.
I skip many threads, only viewing those I find interesting, or where I might have an
answer or wish to make a point. My replies are quite infrequent, often discarded.
I always ignore those threads by a certain member who overuses exclamation marks "!" in the heading.

Created a new account for test purposes: Profile settings no longer have "Send me a notification ...." checkbox.
So apparently we are runnung new forum software. And that's the reason for no more notification mails.

Although it says so .... it's not necessarily true
There has been quite some work done on new SW, so that may be replacing existing modules, like "Your Profile". |

That means beta is coming

You know, you metric freaks are a real pain. According to convert-me.com you are enjoying a 5°F day. I assumed being near the ocean or channel or whatever water it is, would keep the temperature warmer. It really works for California. Can I assume the wind is not from the west?
We have 15°F here today and that's too cold for me. That's a balmy -9.5°C. |

I don't have extended privileges (apart from the moderatorship), it's just what I found when I created the new user "Plons_test" to do some tests on email-notifications. Today I tried again to get to that new page, but no luck. Hmmmm.
@zainka: I was referring to personal webspace for every member.
@steve17: winds from the east indeed. -15°C is rather uncommon in our sea-climate. If it holds (and it looks like it) we expect that the famous "Elfstedentocht" will be held, in about a week.

My email light isn't very interesting at the moment, it just makes the wall glow. Version 2 would be me adding a 110dB siren instead...

| I got several PM's over-night as I generally do. I read them this morning then at about 10am GMT (so 11am CET) I got a flurry of emails saying "you have received a new PM on Freaks" long after they'd been read/deleted. I presume these were "stuck in a pipe" somewhere and it just explosively unblocked itself? |

Just a remark concerning the original subject of this thread: Today I suddenly got a whole bunch of update emails from avrfreaks. Some of them were a couple of days old. It looks like someone (Eivind ?) got around and fixed this.
Thanks ! |

Yay! My mailbox is full this morning. Thanks Elvind.
<edit> That's interesting. The "sent" time and date of each email is the same time and date (my local) as each reply posted, some nearly a week ago, but the "received" times all fall into one half-hour period yesterday that would be, um, 10.30 to 11am CET. |

My guess is that Atmel use Santa for delivering notification emails and today was the first day after Christmas that he and the reindeer were back at work after a well earned rest following their busy period? |

Nothing here, even checked the spam folder on the ISP server where it gets filtered.
I'm bad, bad boy not even coals..I could at least sell it to China. |

Ah, mine have started coming in. Thanks, eivind (or Santa).
<edit> Well, I got 3 old ones. Still waiting for the floodgates to open, but it's an encouraging sign. |

That was...interesting. My phone just about melted overnight trying to receive about 150 notification emails from AVRFreaks. I assume this was due to a deadlocked process on the AVRFreaks sever or similar for mailing.
I wonder how many emails that poor server had to send out last night once it was resumed; with 40,000+ members each with a few dozen emails...

What we know
Dean: 150
Chuck: 3
Nard: 56
Now some guessing:
Cliff: 400
Lee 300
JohnS 150
Bob 150
Carl 25
Johan 100
Koschi 150
glitch 150
Jörg 100
Jim 150
David 100
lfmorrison 100
JoeSmokey 75
Eric 50
Leon 75
DavidDaqq 50
My guestimate: appr. 2325 notifications for the top 20 or so, ... 4000 for the total amount ??
Cheers
Nard

I took the photo new years eve!
Just kidding.
Simply set camera on 1/4 sec. Hold body still and shake head.
Somebody in a photo group i'm in ran a self portrait competition. I don't like photos of myself though. |

Mine are more or less working too, in fits and spurts. The one on John's post (directly above) is actually right on time, so maybe all is well in the heavens again. I also got my first product notification in many, many months.
Many thanks to eivind or whichever kind soul(s) made this happen. |

There is more than one way to skin a cat. The forum can always present you with a list of threads that you have participated in. And it will mark the threads where there are new posts since last login with the "new post icon".
I didn't really get the "arousement" over the notifications missing, but might it be that you all have missed the item I have marked below? I use that as my standard MO here at freaks - on my start page I have a link directly to "My posts". |

Leon is going to hate you for that. Anyway it's great that it is working now again, don't have to use my head as much.
Ok for you youngins...wait until you get to my age.
Eivind or whomever got it working again should get the E-plumber of the year award. |
