Freaks,

The time is right to try a little experimentation in the way we deliver information. I wanted to try to shake things up a bit, and try a slightly different approach - a narrated PowerPoint presentation.

I've started with a few slides, with the intention of providing a free "sample", and saving the good stuff for the later slides (available for a small fee to try to raise some money for myself). Having looked through the finished result however, I think I'll just go with more traditional book/article teaching methods.

Still, I'd like to post it here anyway, as inspiration to others. Discuss at will!

PS: I have a cold at the moment, so my apologies for the voice!

Good to hear your voice, you sound both competent and mature and the accent isn't all that noticeable. I'm not sure what I think about this method. I've been thinking about doing YouTube style videos for introductory material, but I personally would rather have a text to consult for the more detailed exposition. Seems you may have come to the same conclusion about a text.

I'll email you about some additional ideas.

And not just ONE stutter !

Doing it this way, adds an extra dimension. I sat back, listened and watched the screen now and then. Didn't miss a single word. It was all very clear. And made me think of a personal training. Dean ! One more talent !

I just finished watching the sample presentation. Very clear with a nice sense of pacing. I agree with smiley that when the subject matter begins to get more complicated a textual presentation will allow for understanding at the proper pace for each individual's learning style.

Same conclusion here. I was inspired by my Microprocessors lecturer who has been able to present the information via lectures in a clear format. After this attempt however, I think traditional books are the way to go for lengthy technical discussions -- but it seems to work adequately for introductions to a particular concept.

The voice is a bit flat/nasal at the moment, due to a cold I'm suffering from.

I confess, I cheated! I'm a terrible public speaker, so after a few failed off-the-hip attempts I gave up and recorded a pre-written narration. Believe me, you don't want to have to suffer through the originals!

This experience has taught me just how badly I slur words when trying to get through large amounts of text. I had to re-record a bunch of bits where I just rambled into one long mashed up syllable. I still do that in the final version, just not as bad.

If nothing else, it's proof that I'm a real human!

This is a good way for you to get practice and improve with public speaking. Everyone has to start somewhere, even the best public speakers spend time honing their skill.

HOLY EXPLICATIVE!

I didn't think there'd be so many downloads in such a short time - my site statistics show over 630 requests in the last two days. That's a *ginormous* amount of hits -- over three gigabytes in the last 24 hours!

Well done! I've attended dozens, if not hundreds, of technical presentations and your work is as good as any of them! I enjoyed viewing and listening to the slideshow, but I was finsihed it with a, "where's the rest of it", feeling. I liked it so much that I wanted to know more.

Here's hoping that you'll do a followup presentation with the technical aspects of using the MyUSB code in a sample project.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback Smile. Reviewing it again after a few weeks has warmed me up to the idea again, but I think ultimately a book format is the way to go. I guess I could be hired out for actual public presentations however Laughing.

I've started writing a book on it (the Atmel USB AVRs and the MyUSB library). It should be finished in two or so months.

Thank you, a very good primer.

Came across this while looking for information about getting my UC3B0256 on an EVK1101 board to play USB host to a USB Drive (No luck yet).

On the topic of bandwidth, if you need a mirror site for such in the future; please PM me. Smile
