Would someone at Atmel PLEASE put 50p in the meter to keep Freaks server running? Over the last few days it's been so slow to respond I fear that either the steam pressure that runs the server has dropped or the main elastic band holding things together has snapped.

They have been throttling down gradually. They need the power to drive the new PA system playing Yakety Sax in the server room..
Just a minute ago I tried to post in another thread, and after clicking "Submit" all I got was a blank page.
Each time I use my joke about AVRfreaks finally dying it becomes less of a joke and more of a likely future.
Now, let's see if I can post this..
EDIT: At first it failed in the same way, but it finally succeeded after several attempts. Makes me think of the old indian in "Little Big Man". |

| I thought it was the rusty pipes between OZ & the server, but it looks like the blocked tap at server! |

I have to admit it's got a bit better but I'm still getting the odd page "hang" half way through delivery.
Another indicator of site problems is simply thread volume. If you leave Freaks for a day you can usually rely on roughly as many updated threads in "AVR Forum" as it takes to fill the first page. I've left it for a day a couple of times in the last 1-2 weeks and on return there've only been 10-20 updated threads. I know there's holidays but I think this is because people have had problems posting. |

It has been very slow for me the last few days. From my end, it seems that most web sites are slower than usual, but no other site among the ones I frequent is as bad as this one.
It also seems to affect the activity here now. |

| And now it's faster than ever. I guess I should have flagged my concern sooner. |

The server is currently getting hammered by both Google and Microsoft crawlers -- we'll need to find the server admin to get them to back off a bit.

It must be the high quality & high level of off topic forum posts that is attracting their attention. They know where the intelligentsia hangs out! |

Dean,
I'm pretty sure they (whoever it is pretending to be Google/bing) are done. Like I said, it's faster than ever now. |

| It's a little bit better now but the crawlers are still active. During the time Dean posted this they made up for >90% of the requests |

Agree, yesterday was a bad, bad day. Perhaps the worst I can remember in recent times. Clearly there's a problem and it's getting worse. So I'll just say again :
For the love and honour of God will you not fix it? |

Wasting your time, they don't believe in God. Maybe appeal to the love of money?
My guess is that someone in India is working on this, maybe running a dual system?
ohhh too bad, the post I moved to the trading post from someone in India offering web services has disappeared. |

I've had an idea. There must be what? perhaps 5,000 active members on Freaks. Suppose we all donate £1. £5000 should buy Atmel a pretty respectable server PC and some internet bandwidth to run Freaks on? How about it? The system has otherwise now ground to an almost complete stand-still and every time I click a link to a thread it can take a minute or more before it appears |

Mine is ok at the moment!
However Kent is possibly more technologically advanced than Essex.
Mind you, even Kent had been pretty slow recently.
