Johan's muse must be over here visiting state-side. My apologies for the OT drift, but since we're all waiting for the return of #1995 and have nothing to do in the meantime anyway...

There once was a 'freak from Nantucket
Who said "These PICs really suck it
"Don't run worth a hoot
"And are ugly to boot
"To use them you might as well go fly a kite"

Ah but we still don't know what the forum software is going to call a 10K poster (I'm kind of hoping it might be "sad anorak" or something!)

As I said elsewhere I was just using this ID because one of the things that bugs me about 'freaks is that once you access the board and start reading messages then if you leave the thing for 30minutes or more (is it?) then all your message read/non-read counters get reset and you lose track of what you've read and when you haven't. So I was just using "WrightFlyer" to have a quick look (and post as it turned out!)

BTW, I kind of wish I HAD registered this second ID as "RetroCliff" (with the bi-polar personality) in memory of our good friend HWMNBN !

(actually I use "WrightFlyer" on almost all other message boards I use as my main passion in life is aviation and that aircraft (at 10:30am on Dec 17th 1903 for 120ft) along with the earlier research gliders by George Cayley and Otto Lilienthal represents some of mankind's greatest achievements ever IMHO)

Johan,

While I'm not "WrightFlyer" on this one either, this one is me too:

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/member.php?u=78399

In fact, this board relates more directly to my "day job" and most specifically this particular forum:

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/foru ... y.php?f=35

PS I've got some pictures of me on a bridge over one of the canals just before the big push - but the pictures are still in the digital camera - may post later.

Oh and here's another board - but I haven't accessed it much recently:

I think we should all just start using the phrase "wearing a WrightFlyer" when engaging in certain types of social intercourse. Something symbolizing a certain level of anonymity and protection.

example: "Remember, Smiley says to wear a WrightFlyer when you post an answer to that troll"

OK, I'll blow another count towards 10K to say that in part that's exactly what I had in mind when I decided to start "two timing" 'freaks. I wanted a "semi anonymous" ID that I could use to be sarcastic to the suspected trolls/just plain idiots who clearly have made zero effort to answer their question before posting.

Hear! Hear! And put him on their retirement account, too. Best non-employee and public relations hound they have!

Oh, I missed it, I missed it!!!!

Congratulations Cliff, thanks for the first 10K, being a top 'freak in all aspects I can think of, and lets hope for another few 10K of posts before the AVR(Cool eventually goes to the grave...

(Now, theres a new nonsense subject we can delve into! How long will the AVR architecture last? Another 10 years? 15? 20? Will it outlive me? Will programmable logic, say the follow up to FPGAs as we know them today, at one time become so cheap that they will totally oust the traditional microcontrollers as we know them?)

Thanks to everyone - though I'm not sure a loud mouthed gob-shite like me actually deserves the plaudits!

As it took 807 days to get here I guess it'll be January 2010 for the next 10K. I doubt the AVR range will have chnaged much in such a sort span. Perhaps we might have seen the first 512K device by then and I guess as die sizes shrink we'll see even better power consumption figures and hopefully cheaper silicon in that time frame. Of course the Xmegas should be well established by then. Should be fun.

BTW Johan I was just reading the datasheet about one of the FPSLIC devices the other day as there's been a few posts about them recently and they sure look like an interesting area for the future of AVRs
