I upgraded the dragons firmware wen I started to use AS6.
I have a short test program that I wrote in AS4 and I just made a change to it and went to use the dragon to do an ISP and AS$ says too new firmware click ok or something to load older firmware....I clicked and the dragons red/green LED now glows orange and thats all folks. AS4 no longer sees it and gives an error
If I connect it back up to AS6 and do a new firmware updrade then the dragon comes back.
So you cannot go backwards then on the firmware? |

Yes, you can go backwards and forwards.
If AS4 does not recognise the Dragon, unplug and plug in again.
Start an AS4 Debug session. AS4 will prompt and downgrade as required.
Start an AS6 Debug session. AS6 will prompt and upgrade as required.
Yes, it is a pain but it does work.

Not on this side of the pond as my opening states
I'll just convert all my projects over to AS6, this is getting to be a headache |

Well, I just tried two methods:
1. AS4->Tools->Dragon_Upgrade
2. AS4->Programming->Prompt_for_Upgrade (to v6.18 )
I cycled power to the Dragon as requested.
Both methods worked just fine. (2) annoyingly closes AS4. (1) continues in AS4.19.
Meanwhile, I accessed the Dragon via AS6. This prompts for upgrade from v6.10 to v7.18. Programming and debugging works fine in AS6.
I tried the downgrade / upgrade several times. Perhaps English pond water is smoother!
I would agree 100%. It is a pain to downgrade whenever you want to use AS4. Hey-ho, you try to keep everything in AS6.

For severe headaches of this kind, maybe have two Dragons. One for each version of Studio.
Now if you want to run AS4.18, AS4.19, AS5, AS6, AS6SP1 and AS6SP2 you're in trouble..  |

I have a mkII and a Dragon.
If I really want to simultaneously build in AS4 and AS6, I will use both debuggers with two different AVR boards.
Incidentally, you can use Rowley for debugging regardless of firmware versions. And of course AS4, C-SPY, Rowley will all work fine with a JTAGICE-1 clone. (and older m16, m32, m128, m165 ... chips)

Great minds think alike.
At the same time I also have a new J3 that only works in AS6 so I could always just keep the dragon setup for AS4, but I can no longer go backwards with it firmware wise...(I may have an issue with the pc...nevermind) I actually like the dragon better because it has a stronger cable that is also longer than the flimsy J3's. But I am thinking of purchasing a second dragon though....

Or just have a stable of dragons A wasteful stable though. |
