I got an email from Atmel that mentioned this:
https://secure.atmel.com/forms/secure/v ... amplestore
Sounds interesting (except it's the 10 gazillionth time Atmel want me to register!).
It's certainly true that Atmel have been criticized in the past for not having something like this that many competitors do.
BTW I love the fact that in registering I have to give a Country then a State. I said UK and it then offered me:
Berkshire
Birmingham
Buckinghamshire
Essex
London
Manchester
West Midlands
Whitely (!!!!???)
Other
So a great grasp of UK geography then (I think someone started typing the list then got bored or their mind wandered).
Oh and irony of ironies, at the end it said I can't get samples as my email address is @hotmail.com |

I tried registering with India and they have the following drop down:
Bangalore
Chennai
Delhi
Goa
Karnataka
Kerela
Maharashtra
Others
The top 3 are not even states.

I can speculate: The "state" dropdown reflects where Atmel has their sales representatives and/or what areas they cover. So e.g. Bangaore, Chennai and Delhi are areas that are so dense with customers (or "prospects") that Atmel has a special sales representative there. Then some states are big enough saleswise to motivate their own representatives. All the rest goes into the "others" area which e.g. the national sales handles.
Cliff! Any of the six Whitleys in UK - Berkshire, Cheshire, Coventry, North Yourshire, Wiltshire or Surrey) have some large/dominating electronics industry(/ies) or some such? I would guess Berkshire - as in "Thames Valley". |

I do not think Goa and Kerela would have very dense sales when compared to say Bangalore or Mumbai.
Maybe those are the favorite cities or states of the person who made the list .

There's an Atmel site in one of those, so I'm guessing it's that one .
For what it's worth yes, the word on the grapevine is that we are actually shipping samples now. I've got confirmation from people over IRC that they arrived fairly promptly.

Dean, you do realize that the interpretation of "promptly" used in "Atmel context" does not say much? |

I would hope you would give me some credit here - I meant "within an actual human week or two".

If it was just you I'd be sure the samples would be in an envelope three seconds after Cliff hit the submit button. What I was questioning was what the Atmel grapevine says. We've been there before. Remember AS5? Remember some new AVR models? I seem to recall a rework of AVRfreaks..
I'd love to be proven wrong, but the best forecasting method there is ("yesterdays weather") plays in my team here it seems until we have some witnesses to the contrary.
---
Isn't it ironic that Atmel will not accept Hotmail mail addresses? Last time I checked you'd have to register to get one. The lawyers, marketeers and web-kiddies should be jumping with joy . |

I wonder if it is safe to assume that if it is not in the sample center it is EOL? I noticed that the CPLD section is not populated.

OK, stop speculating! Request samples and report how long it took. Evidence guys, evidence!
Cheers,

Are they giving chips away that are only supported by AS6 to get people to use AS6? |
