| Anybody have experience with these? I don't see a forum about them. I'm contemplating a new project, be forewarned, and thinking a touch screen might be better than buttons. Unless, of course, it would cost $50 per item to add touch. |

QTouch is a touch technology encompassing push-button replacement capacitive buttons as well as capacitive sliders and wheels. This technology includes QMatrix, which is a variant of QTouch that involves matrix layouts for higher resolution touch sensing.
QTouch is available to consumers in both library (for AVR, UC3 and SAM IIRC) and discrete (QT*) part forms. They are not designed to be used overlaying a screen, but rather accompanying one.
maXTouch is a set of discrete chips which can be integrated into existing displays with the addition of special glass layers. I don't know much about them, but they are not sold to end-users to the best of my knowledge, this you would need to find an existing screen vendor offering integrated maXTouch functionality.
XSense I've never heard of until now (not my division) but it looks like a variant of maXTouch.

| Hmm... Even if I was to mass produce, I'd likely qualify as "End User." Perhaps QTouch instead of tactile buttons under holes drilled in the case might be good. |

Yes, and a lot more with a good 'pickup. I used the old Qtouch chips on a climbing wall, detecting hands and feet on each 'hold' |
