Techrepublic cites this real world mistake.
I once got a call from a user who said that he thought that either a circuit breaker had been tripped or his power strip had gone bad because neither his computer nor his monitor were receiving any power. This guy was normally pretty sharp, so I assumed that his diagnosis was probably correct.
When I showed up with a new power strip, I began unplugging everything from the old power strip only to discover that the power strip was plugged into itself rather than being plugged into an electrical outlet. |

We've had AC and DC for a long time but BC and CC have been missing up until now.
CC is the Circular Current you get when plugging a power strip into itself, and Bob referred correctly to Bolied-off Current (or BC).
Had it not been bolied off it would have flown forever, a.k.a EC (Eternal Current).
FC and further down the alphabet are not defined yet. You are free to invent them..

Yep. The JC current is easy to detect, as it emits a mono-polar magnetic field, which is generally repulsive.

| See, the trick is to first plug the power strip into the wall to get it charged up, then you need to unplug it from the wall and REALLY QUICKLY plug it into itself to keep the power circulating. If you're not fast enough, all the electrons spill out and then you'll look like an idiot when tech support shows up. |

I find this hard to believe since the speed of the electrons is 1/1000 of an inch per second. Say the chord is one metre (approx 40 inches). then it takes an electron about 40000 seconds to travel the length of the loop. Conversely, for each second you're out of the outlet and still not in the loop only 1/40000 of the electrons spill out. That's the good news.
The bad news is that it takes 40000 seconds to fully load the power strip with electrons. That's more than 11 hours.
Excuse me - gotta go... I need lay out the 25 metre extension chord. I'm planning on using the electric lawn mover somewhere around midsummer...

| In order not to have current spill out from the strip one has to make sure that the unused outlets have been plugged up. |

while reversing the orientation yields AC. |

Well, I had to laugh at myself once for making the same mistake in the tangle of wires and cables behind the desk. I'd plugged the UPS into the power strip powered by the ups. Couldn't figure out why the silly thing was beeping. |
