| I had a good time at this seminar and learned a lot but am more interested in the 8 bit micros. Anyone want a sam4Xplained board? I'ld like to trade for a xmega one OBO. |

Atmel is missing out on promoting a huge amount of business by not looking at all the technology businesses in the Pacific Northwest. Why always California? |

I think they have a local office. There were only about 15 people there so there wasn't a huge turnout. It surprised me considering it only costs $50 and you get lunch and a $30 board.
I think a little better marketing could help. A week before I was at the android developer conference and the people at the Atmel booth didn't even know that the seminar would be held a week later in the same building! |

| Hey, that marketing comment was kinda rude, sorry. I wouldn't know what it takes to do a good marketing campaign. Also, those guys at the Atmel booth were busy pushing the technology live event so its not a huge deal that they didn't know about a tiny seminar. I'm excited about the tech live expo. |

So they "know the way to San Jose" but not necessarily OUT of San Jose.  |

Not sure this will be of much use given that there are not that many dates left in the US, but I went to the event yesterday in Phoenix. The board was the SAM4S supplied with the event was is the SAM4S Xplained due for release this month. Atmel also loaned the SAM4S-ek (due for release in July) for the second day labs. I recieved a price from Mouser and the SAM4S-EK is about $180 (your mileage may vary). The labs were very instructive for the ARM-uninitiated; primarily button/LED demos, slider demo (there is a PCB slider on the board - no exercise in the labs though), and a FFT demo that was pretty well thought out (the FFT demo was done on the SAM4S-EK. The value, in my opinion (aside from face to face contact with the Atmel FAEs) was that if you are new to ARM Cortex (M3 or M3), a good introduction to Studio 6 as well as the CMSIS standard and Atmel's ASF framework. Given the other company in Phoenix sells their MIPS GNU compiler for > $1000 the Atmel solution is great.
That said, I learned that the SAM4S is designed in France, FAB'd in France, (probably TSMC as well). The Atmel ARM family seems to be well represented in Europe, lacking support in the US. However, the instructor of the class did a great job representing Atmel and is the leader of the technical team in CA. Atmel is based in CA as someone already pointed out. I think they are resource limited (based on support requests to their web site, and have been for some time. I think their ARM support team is incredibly busy with the new products and is doing the best with the resources at their disposal.
That was all gleaned from the event. So, I found that the event had good value (for the cost) including the hundred or so it cost me to fly to Phoenix from Albuquerque.
