Before we get to gloating over the failed NK rocket, remember how many we (Americans) blew up before we figured it out.

What a wasted opportunity. If I had been in Kim Jong Un's position, I would have done the following: set the rocket launch date 2 weeks earlier. Schedule a press conference to occur just before the launch, and invite all of the world's media to it. At the press conference, say the following statement: "April Fool".

I am somewhat surprised that The World makes so much noise about them launching a rocket. It is their rocket, it is in their own country, and it is not launched to attack. And other countries launch rockets as well. Does America (have to) care what the world thinks of them launching rockets???

Who do the Americans (+allies) think they are that they want to control the world outside their own country?

North Korea may be a "bad country", but do they really do any harm?

The leaders enslave the people, use their weapons to demand foreign aid, then they then keep that aid from their own people and only distribute to themselves - using it to build bigger weapons?

You seeem somewhat indoctrinated by public opinion. Miss Clinton was also on our tv... But who is she that she needs to comment on North Korea's internal affairs?
Would she accept comments from North Korea on US's business???
America is so proud of its freedom. But it does NOT respect other peoples choices of freedom very well...
This really irritates me.

Our leaders enslave us too. We are fond of democracy however. But why should democracy be the solution for everyone everywhere in the world? Most of us know its deficiencies, but have no better solution at hand.
Every country get the leaders they deserve.
It seems the North Koreans are happy with (waving to) their system.
My point is: our society should not be regarded as a blueprint for theirs. We think we are right. And they think they are right. Let us accept that not all animals are equal.
And it is good to search for a better world. For that you need to give alternatives a chance.

I am inclined to believe that a people or a country should choose their own way of life.

I am sceptical that North Korean citizens get a say, or a good deal.

However, North Korea has shown that its nuclear capability stops America attacking it. Which is possibly why Iran seeks nuclear power.

Nuclear proliferation is a bad thing (tm).

David.

Nuclear (war) stuff is widely in the US, France, UK, .... in the free world.
So why deny that to others?
Of course I understand that is threatening for the "free" countries, they want to keep a monopoly. I can understand all that, but is is not reasonable if we want an open communication in this world.

So, come on, lets talk! Open up the world. Stop demonising.

Since a rocket leaves the country territory, it is no longer an internal affair. And when a person believes that a completely suppressed and overabused nation should be left alone, he just needs to move to that country and live in total socialist happiness in there Laughing

Who decides over what is the border of the country's territory?

There are so many disputes over borders.

Let me say this: the winner is allways right. Just because he is the strongest he writes the laws. It is pure powerplay.

Always has, always will be. The point of an elected government is that there's some hope that there will be some associated responsibility.

I'm all for letting other countries get on with their own affairs but I'm not convinced that dragging your populace down to the stone age so your military can build nukes - and relying on other countries to feed your population through charity (sorry, 'food aid') is necessarily a society that I'd like to live in.

In the case of North Korea the border is basically where the government won't let you leave if you have the misfortune to live there.

Gentle reminder about the politics/religion thing. This place remains happier if arguments that cannot be won are avoided Smile

Not making any argument here, but I thought this fascinating satellite image might help if anyone browsing the forum was not sure where North Korea was Cool

I found a video of the whole event:

Anyway, what do you expect when you launch on Friday the 13th?

I sympathize with this view. However, no one is denying NK it's rights to develop nukes and rockets. But despite NK's claims otherwise, the rocket development is aimed at delivering nuclear weapons, which is seen as destabilizing to the region. Thus diplomatic pressure to discourage them.

Don't you wish the people of NK would just rise up and overthrow their brutal regime? But history shows that humans can take a lot of abuse before they mobilize.

BTW: daqq, LMAO.

I like the ending the best.

Clapping for the "Success".

Because we report "success" no matter the outcome!

Me too!

Their technology is inferior- they should have put the launch pad at the top of the hill instead of the bottom to make orbit easier to achieve. Such as it is, if that rocket didn't leave the pad three guesses as to what the other guy with the rifle was going to do Cool

Tom, I thought that image was just evidence that the "Dear Leader" supported the "Earth hour" movement Laughing

Reading that article is difficult. While I'm tempted to buy the book it might be too painful to read the real life account of people reduced to living like animals. The poor guy regarded his mother as a competitor for food. Unbelievable.
