| There don't seem to be any links to distributors on the relevant web pages, so they are probably vapourware. |

This is incorrect, as I got samples for customers sitting on my table. But this is Australia, people walk upside down here.

| Exactly which model does anyone have samples of? I just tried a few of the "U" part numbers at both www.findchips.com and www.octopart.com and, to a man, all distributors showed no stock? |

I put in a sample request on the Atmel site and their local sales rep got in touch with me. The model was the 32k A4 in BGA and QFN.
I imagine once the factory fulfills the existing orders things will start shipping to distributors. That's just a guess though. |

I am looking right now at the XMEGA128A3U, according to datecode they were manufactured on 27th week of 2011, which is July. I assume not avalable for generic distributer like digikey etc. and Atmel now supplying samples only through their reps. |

I bought 3000 ATXMEGA32A4U-AU a few weeks ago from NU Horizons. Those 2880 are being shipped to me 
I can sell a few on my website
I am working on my next revision of the Xprotolab that will use these chips. |

The Communists saw it as a "crime against the People" and punished it very hard. (no longer these days)
By the way, on your schematic I did not see protection diodes for the USB data lines and no resistors for the LEDs. There is something magic that I did not notice ?

Thanks, I'll incorporate the protection diodes on the USB on my next revision.
I don't need the resistor for the LEDs because they will be driven with pulse width modulation. The output driver is current limited as well. |

| I'd be extremely wary of forgoing the ballast resistors on an LED. You have to worry about the forward current on the LED changing as a function of temperature, plus there's some variation from part to part. |

| Yeah, the red one should be between 13mA and 25mA. I wouldn't be satisfied with that sort of uncertainty. I guess your application isn't so sensitive, or is a one-off where you can control it. And that's not even taking VCC accuracy (and fluctuations) into account. |

I can't see anyone in their right minds going into production with them until they are available in quantity from distributors. They *are* vapourware. |

Our definitions of vapourware differ. To me vapourware is something that has been announced but not made. Any company, even your favorite, has to go through a process of sampling, delivery to major clients, and shipping to distributors. The ATxmegaU parts in in that stream and will soon be available from distributors. If it was vaporware it never would have sampled, gazziani would never have seen the parts and Mouser wouldn't have the BGA parts. I'd recommend patience.

I see that mouser has them but lead time is 12 weeks and you have to buy like 395 of them.
edit....wooops I see that others noticed too. These would be a great micro to play around with. |

Don't listen to me. I just say things like that to muss the fur of the PIC Cat. But I do remember when folks were bitching about the lack of some AVR and suddenly there were 20,000+ at DigiKey. Didn't stop the bitching but did prove that the pipeline works.
