The latest JTAGICE mkII have a serial number that starts with 70..., those also work AFAIK.

If you are worried about device support, get an AVR Dragon, it supports all programming modes and device to my knowledge.

I bought a JTAGICE MKII-CN from MCUZone (through DealExcel) some month ago, but it is looks like faulty.

I tried to connect the JTAGICE MKII-CN to my laptop (after installed AVR Studio 4.18 +
SP3), but the operating system (Windows XP SP3) says that it can not
identify the device (USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices
attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows not recognize
it) and not tries to install any driver. The red led lights and the blue
blinks about 1s cycle.
I tried it also on a desktop machine with fresh Windows XP SP3 install,
but got the same result.
I found the USB\VID_0000&PID_0000\5&26E7C7E1&0&1 device id in the
prefences of the unknown device.
I tried to catch the USB communication and found that the returned Device descriptor
contains only zeros and the "Enumeration of device failed".

So I think thet this device is faulty.
I tried to contact with MCUZone and with DealExcel via e-mail and msn but with no success.

So. My question is. Is this problem related to firmware or (for example) the USB chip? Can i write a firmware from avrvi to this device? Or has anyone a working firmware from MCUZone?

Kind regards,

If you want to upgrade after upgrade fail from other firmware.dat file for JTAGICE-mkII-clone (not CM product), You have to connect 3 to 9 in 10 pin ribbone connector before turn on power switch.
And you can firmware upgrade from included firmware(as dat file) folder in your AVR studio folder. This way is a force firmware upgarding way. Have good luck to you.
