Hello to all Win7 users
I did not expect any problems while switching from Vista x64 to Win7 x64, but with the JTAGICE mkII I had some.
So here is a short step-by-step driver installation tutorial:
- As you may remember, there where always 2 devices in the Jungo-folder in the Device Manager. By right clicking on the computers name in the Device Manage, selecting "Add legacy hardware" you can install an extra driver.
- click next
- select "Install the hardware, that I manually select from a List (Advanced)"
- select "Show All Devices"
- click on "Have disc" and point to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Atmel\AVR Tools\usb64\windrvr6.inf"
- select WinDriver an continue by clicking "next" and "install" many times
- now you can install the JTAGICE mkII driver. Reinstall it, if you have tried it already, it should work now. If you let Windows search on the Internet, it will find the correct one.
- when it looks like this, it should work:
Tell me if there are some errors here... |

Two thumbs up from me as well. Worked perfectly for my Dragon.
Now I will try the same trick with the driver for my Xilinx FPGA dev board, which up until now has failed just like this one. Worth a try. |

I just want to add that it is critical to use the "Add legacy hardware"! I had previously installed Windows 7 64bit on my laptop and got everything working thanks to this guide. When I finally decided to upgrade my main system to Windows 7 64bit, the avrisp mkii was already in the device manager as an unknown device, so I simply updated the driver and pointed it to the correct driver.
It appeared to install correctly and the USB LED lite up like it should when I plugged in my avrisp mk ii. But, when I went to connect to it via AVR Studio, it could never connect and would time out and go back to the connection screen.
After playing with a a bit, I FINALLY remembered the "Add legacy hardware" bit and uninstalled the device, then reinstalled it correctly. Needless to say, it worked perfectly the first time when I installed it via the legacy hardware method.
Just something to keep in mind. |

As far as I remember, I just let Windows search automatically for the Driver and that's all. But maybe you will find it at the same place as step 5.
EDIT: Step5 is not the correct answer. I can't say where to find it.
But as I said, Win7 will find it by itself. |

| Just to note that it's been reported that Studio 4.18 RC3 has been reported to work with without needing this mod. Future readers of this thread may well be reading this after the official release of Studio 4.18 so maybe try upgrading to that first? |

Hi,
I have new computer with Windows7 32 bit and installed AVRstudio version4.18 Build 692. Unfortunately AVRISP mkII and AVRATJTAGICE_MKII do not work (not able to connect), despite trying everything as per steps above. Any advice?
Everything works on the old WindowsXP machine.

No sorry, this works fine for me. Maybe you deinstall your Jungo devices and start again?
With the newest drivers it should work also without my tutorial. |

Hey clawson, just downloaded SP3. Will give it a shot and let you know. I've tried downloading the latest driver pack from Jungo but that too hasn't helped. Have tried legacy mode installation aswell.
What i haven't tried yet is installing Avr Studio after logging in as Admin. Will that help? Studio is working fine, it's just the drivers for ISPmkII that are the problem right? well, will update later... |

update:
Downloaded fresh packages of 4.18 + SP1+SP2+SP3+avr tool chain for SP3.
Installed everthing from the Admin account.
Ran the installation in compatibility mode.
Still doesn't work guys.
I get this from AVRStudio help:
AVR Studio 4.18.715
GUI Version 4, 18, 0, 685
Operating System
Major 5
Minor 1
PlatformID 2
Build 2600
Service Pack 3
Plugins:
VDMAvrGUI
AvrPluginAvrAsmObject 1, 0, 0, 48
AvrPluginavrgccplugin 1, 0, 0, 11
Stk500Dll 1, 0, 1, 15
Any suggestions? As i see it, i've two options left.
Running XP on a VM provided by microsoft OR simply running XP.
Once again, any kinda help would be appreciated. To sum it up, My device manager shows AVRISP mkII with an error code 10, (i.e. Device cannot start.)
Jungo Driver version 10.1.1.0
not to be dramatic or anything but HELP!!!!
UPDATE:
Installed Windows XP as a virtual machine using the software provided by microsoft but I still get the same error code.
I plugged in the ISP MKII into another PC that has Windows XP, works like without a hitch.
Any ideas?? |

Don't know if it helps but after installing avr32 studio 2.5, gnu toolchain 2.4.2 on windows 7 everything worked just fine for me.
The toolchain sorted out all windrivers without any effort on my part... |

They have obviously applied the same technology as in SP3 for 8-bit AVR Studio which also seems to fix the Win7 situation too. |

Hi,
thanks a lot for this post, and im glad i just found it.
The strange thing is, i just had issues getting my avr dragon to be recognized on my win7/64 notebook.
but, it used to work in the past. i used to flash some old mega88 prototype circuits a few months ago on the same machine/os.
now i couldnt connect to the drgon anymore. it showed up properly when being plugged in (both, windriver and avr dragon under device manager) but neither the upgrade nor the programming interface in avr studio found it.
after finding your thread i manually removed both drivers, installed the windriver manually by pointing to it and let windows look for updated avr dragon drivers.
after that, everything worked flawlessly again, updated the dragon and the programmer UI now loads up again.
i have no idea why it stopped working and required a manual removal/reinstall of the driver, tho... |

I have W7 32 and running 4.18 build 700. It certainly still doesn't automatically install the drivers properly, and neither do the instructions at the top work exactly. Having done the manual legacy install, and deleted the existing driver it still doesn't automatically install properly when replugging my dragon. I have to go to "update driver software" on the faulty avrdragon device and select the .inf driver file (the same one as when doing the legacy install) manually. This then results in two Windriver devices in the Jungo folder and all finally works!
Hopefully that might be helpful for others still struggling - though given W7 has been out in the wild for a good 12 months, I do have to wonder how long it will take for Atmel to pull their finger out and fix this issue properly I guess more of us need to report it as a problem rather than simply fix it ourselves? |

Aaah getting mad Used AVR studio 4 with SP3 and AVR studio 5 on all three installations.
My AVR ISP MKII is having a code 28 error (does not install), on my Mac via Parallels windows XP and windows 7.
But ALSO on a windows 7 x64 pc, with Jungo 10.2 betafirmware, add legacy trick. EVERYTHING.
I can see the windriver in "device manager", just not the fact that my AVR ISP MKII is installed. I can see the programmer but it is a "unkown USB-Serial port device", with code 28.
You guys have any clue? The only option I see at the moment is getting a Windows XP computer and try again... The only one I can get my hands on has 128MB of ram
EDIT: Tried it now on a XP computer, with AVR studio 4 and AVR SP3. Still it does not work. The LED is green so nothing is wrong there, but the computer just cannot install the programmer.
What else can there be wrong? |

Your pictures show Jungo and LibUSB-Win32 for the USBTiny. It is one or the other, they both can't be installed at the same time.
Atmel makes the bad assumption that no other product in the universe uses the LibUSB-Win32 drivers. |

I was wondering if I could get a copy of the file in \Atmel\AVR Tools\USB 64?
I can't seem to get my ISP to work with the drivers contained in Studio 5.
Thanks.

You don't need this tutorial with the current software from Atmel, they fixed this long ago.
I have no problems using JTAGCIEmk2, JTAGICEmk3 and AVRISPmk2 under Win7x64 without using my tutorial.
And I think they didn't change the driver model on Win8 (except printers or so), so I don't know whats wrong on your system. |
