We're proud to announce that a release candidate of AVR32 Studio 2.0 is now available for download from the usual place: http://www.atmel.no/beta_ware/.
I think many of you will appreciate the new nanotrace capability which can be used with the existing JTAGICE mkII. For Windows users, the most important news is probably leaving cygwin behind, and using MinGW instead. This means less trouble with paths and less conflict with other tools, etc.
There are a lot of other news, I'll just point you to the release notes for details.
Linux support will come shortly.
On behalf of the development team,

Great news! Is there a tutorial for nanotrace - I've never used this kind of thing and I want to learn more about it. I'm afraid I can't afford an AVRONE right now.

If you've got a beta installed, you can use the update menu, but you still should upgrade to the latest GNU Toolchain.
As for nanotrace, we have a bit to go on the documentation, but that's definitely one of the areas which needs attention.

A new release candidate (RC2) is now available from the same place. Please upgrade the AVR32 Toolchain (to 2.0.1) using the installer, but upgrade from earlier Studio versions using Help -> Software Updates -> Search for Updates.
The following bugs are fixed:
Bug 7630: avr32gdproxy crashes when configuring trace on location range
Bug 7592: AVR32 Studio assumes cygwin and uses null in path if no toolchain is found
In addition the documentation has been updated, and new firmware for AVR ONE! and JTAGICE mkII has been added.

Unfortunately there is no Linux version of the 2.0 Release Candidate available. The final release will be fully supported on both Linux and Windows. It will be announced soon.

Ubuntu packages are pending.
As for the target configuration is not valid, click the target, open the properties view and it should show an error message explaining the problem. It's probably a missing board or MCU configuration.

In the meantime I downloaded the SUSE package, and converted to debian using the alien tool (sudo alien -k xxxx.rpm).
Before installing the converted package I had to uninstall the old avr32 package version.
Additionally I had to install libelf, libbost-thread and make a link of libboost-thread-gcc41-mt-1_34_1.so.1.34.1 to libboost-thread-mt.so.3, because the avr32gdbproxy doesn't work. |

| Quick update: I think Ubuntu 6.06 packages will be out on atmel.com tomorrow or the day after at the latest. |
