MegaPin, new AVR delopment board

tools Posted by jurem on Monday, March 08, 2010

MegaPin is new development board that supports most DIL AVRs plus AVR USB AT90USB1287. It features st 2.0 USB ISP programmer and JTAG ICE adapter, hence enables debugging within AVR Studio.

MegaPin features:

• supports most DIL AVRs + AT90USB1287 AVR USB micro controller,
• built-in 2.0 USB fast ISP and JTAG programmer*,
• supports JTAG ICE debugging,
• delivers regulated 3.3 & 5V to target micro controller,
• powers up from USB or 12V DC power supply.

Detail features:

1. supports all AVR microcontrollers in 8-pin, 20-pin, 28-pin & 40 pin DIL packages + AT90USB1287,
2. built in 6 sockets for 1Wire DS18S20 temperature sensors that can be connected to any I/O Port,
3. built in socket for Micro SD card that can be connected to any I/O Port,
4. suitable circuit enables SD card to operate from 3.3 or 5V,
5. 4x8 LEDs on four I/O ports (PortA, PortB, PortC & PortD),
6. 6 I/O connectors for ports: (PortA, PortB, PortC, PortD, PortE & PortF),
7. built in voltage regulator. Output voltage is selectable for 5V and 3.3V supply voltage,
8. can be powered from USB directly or from 12V DC,
9. built in 250 mA fuse to protect USB from short circuit on board,
10. built in USB serial programmer compatible to STK500 - programmer works directly from AVR Studio,
11. preplaced components for JTAG ICE programmer/debugger,
12. built in possibility to use same board for programming and for connection of micro controller’s UART to the PC via USB. That means that if customer wants to send data via serial port it can be done through USB without reconnecting USB cable to another socket,
13. built in oscillator circuit to clock micro controller from external quartz crystal,
14. built in 3-pin socket for ceramic resonator,
15. built in 2-pin socket for 32.768 kHz quartz crystal,
16. built in external adjustable reference voltage when using internal ADC in AVR,
17. built in SMD pads for 90USB1287 micro controller which has USB already built it. Just solder 90USB1287 on the board and you can start using it. Programming is possible via ISP, JTAG or USB Flip SW,
18. built in keyboard that can be connected to any I/O Port,
19. built in STK200 socket for customers who want to have compatibility with STK200,
20. built in protection against wrong polarity of 12V DC power supply voltage,
21. built in Power-ON LED,
22. built in indication of serial communication Tx/Rx LEDs,

You see now, why we call it MegaPin – it’s simply Mega!

*if additional micro controller that supports JTAG ICE is added on PCB.
