ATtiny28L
Availability: In production
Summary
This is probably the best kept secret of the AVR product line. It's not mentioned in the printed datasheet, yet has been available since 1999. Atmel states the device was just a custom device for remote controls (check out the IR driver, keyboard decoder, and the coolest waveform generator!) If you want to build your own remote, Atmel even has an unoficial application note available upon request.
We were surpised to find that the ATtiny28L cost less than the AT90S1200, despite the extra 8 pins and extra timer. But there's no internal EEPROM.
Also available in a 1.8 volts version, ATtiny28V.
