The XMEGA256A3U has a fuse bit (TOSCSEL) that did not exist on the XMEGA256A3. The default is XTAL (TOSC1/2 shared with XTAL). Our xmega256a3 design has an external oscillator (32.768 kHz) on pins E6/E7 so I am assuming I want this set as Alternate (TOSC1/2 on separate pins). The data sheet doesn't add much more of an explanation so I was hoping to get a warm fuzzy from the group.

Thanks in advance.

I'm unsure too but some XMEGA datasheet tell "TOSC pins can optionally be moved to PE2/PE3".

Moreover on some device (<=32) explain port shaing of TOSC and XTAL at chapter "Port Alternate Function".

In this case TOSCSEL fuse bit has function, otherwise not (leave default).
