I want to use a separate RTC chip as the external clock source for the SAML21J B.

I have checked the datasheet, and it seems I should connect the external clock to either XIN (PA14) or XIN32 (PA00), am I rigth? What is the difference between connecting it to XIN (related to XOSC) or XIN32 (with XOSC32K)?

Any comments are appreciated...

The datasheet should tell you. My guess is the frequency involved.

I went throught the datasheet, and it informs about the details of both OSC and OSC32K, but I cannot find any explanations regarding when to use one or the other.

The frequency involved makes sense. Does that mean that with OSC32K it is possible to select higher clock frecuencies? If so, which frequency would be the boundary?

Edit: From Microchip datasheet 60001477A-page 1037, 2017-02
