I've got a JTAGICE3, updated to 3.35

I wanted to try to get the DGI (Data Gateway Interface) working for SPI.

I wanted to use SPI master on the target as a simple debug logging output.

It's something that I might have used the UART for, but that is being used for the application.

By having ISP/SPI programming and DGI SPI debug output I'd be able to switch back and forth without moving connectors.

The problem:

Although the JTAGICE has a 2nd USB interface labelled Data Gateway, it only supports the timestamp interface.

Both Studio 7.0 (1417) and my own experiments seem to indicate this.

--> 00 00 00       // Sign on
<-- 00 a0 00 1f 4a 54 41 47 49 43 45 33 20 44 61 74
    61 20 47 61 74 65 77 61 79 20 49 6e 74 65 72 66
    61 63 65       // "JTAGICE3 Data Gateway Interface"
--> 08 00 00       // Get interface list
<-- 08 a0 01 00    // Only one "interface", timestamp
--> 10 00 02 00 01 // Enable timestamp interface
<-- 10 80          // OK
--> 15 00 01 00    // Poll timestamp interface data
<-- 15 a0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

Was the DGI only halfway implemented on the JTAGICE3?

Wow, no response.

Has anybody ever gotten anything to work with any form of DGI on anything?

Update:

Atmel (Microchip) has confirmed that DGI is not implemented fully and that it never will be on the JTAGICE3.

It is implemented on the Atmel ICE (its successor).

Thanks for the update - please mark that as the solution: http://www.avrfreaks.net/comment...
