Farnell UK say : £64.914 for full version (171 in stock).   £76.97 for ATMEL-ICE-BASIC (1694 in stock)

In my opinion,  buying from your local Distributor is quicker and cheaper than a "MicroChip" or "Atmel" Shop.   Especially when there are high delivery charges.

But why does the same(?) tool cost +450€ when you put microchip label on it.

I must be missing something, it can't be right? Manufactor part name is exactly same "ATATMEL-ICE" for both, but one sold under microchip name costs by far more.

I suspect that Farnell is just doing a special deal.   It is even a good deal compared to the original Atmel pricing.

It might also be that new production plastic cases will say "Microchip".   171 stock is easy to shift.   Selling 1694 stock would be hard.

At some stage,  MicroChip will settle down to a sensible commercial price policy.  e.g. how much price hike on AVR chips loses sales vs profit margin.

The price of development Tools only really affects the hobbyist market.   But if they lose too many hobbyists,   companies might not find young engineers.
