Atmel ICE reference voltage drops when connected to target. Works fine otherwise. Ideas???

So I have just received an Atmel ICE Basic kit. As I am programming using an SWD interface I adapted the cable according to http://www.atmel.com/images/atme... (page 22). The issue I faced is that when I try to read target voltage, I get 2.7V nad I am not able to get device's signature.

 

I tested my custom atmel connector and connected 3.3V straight to the RESET pin  - this time target voltage was read correctly: 3.3V. I then measured RESET pin on the mcu without anyting connected to it: 3.3V. Finally, I tested atmel connector with 3.3V applied to RESET and ground pin attached to separate pin everytime to check if there is a short, but it seems there is nothing wrong with it and voltage read is always 3.3V.

 

I am really puzzled about this and am unsure how to proceed. Any help or suggestions are welcome.

Which pin are you measuring, the nSRST​ or VTG​?  Can you post your schematic?

Ok, so I found the problem: pin 1 of the cable is actually pin 10 of the programmer's PCB connector.
